This snare drum is a cut-down modification of a 15-inch Slingerland parade drum from the 40s. 3-ply shell, the same ply configuration used on Radio King toms and bass drums but with smaller rerings. Parts are various brands. Throwoff: 60s Slingerland Rapid. Rims: chrome over brass 50s WFL or Ludwig. Lugs: modern, with vintage mounting screws. Tension rods: 60s MIJ, unknown brand. Last photo shows the shell under construction. It has numerous extra holes plugged from its original hardware, but the snare beds and bottom bearing edge are original. Top bearing edge is a copy of the bottom one. Painted in a two-tone scheme to imitate an old Duco finish, and finished with 8 coats of lacquer. Shell is in round and fits modern heads well. The lugs are shimmed with thin washers to prevent tension rod splay. The drum has tremendous body and a wide tuning range. The brass rims give it a lot of sustain.
