This offering is for a vintage german tube radio and turntable combination. Model 1963 – 68. Circuit diagram and description. This Braun Stereo-Combination is very nice to look at. The video and the pictures shows the good condition. The design with its clear lines was already trendsetting in the late fifties. Braun his time was far ahead. The design was already trendsetting in the late fifties. Radios from other manufacturers were still in furniture in the so-called “Gelsenkirchen Baroque”. For these reasons, Braun-Radios were mainly bought by the avantgarde, for example, by doctors, lawyers, architects or higher officials. Some models of the house Braun located in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The housing is made of wood. This combination has some special features. The combination consists radio, record player and speaker. The radio and turntable are visible protected by an acrylic cover. The radio has a clear and natural sound. The reception area on FM is from 87 to 104. The turntable is designed for playback of vinyl records. The speeds may be adjusted to 16, 33 and 45 rpm. At the end of the music, the motor switches sometimes not off. For the technically interested readers some details. ECH81, EF89, EABC80, EL84. Loudspeaker: 1 Isophon Broadband. Wave bands: Medium Wave-Broadcast, Short Wave, Long Wave, FM. Power: AC 110 – 220Volt. Dimensions: 22.8 x 9.6 x 11.4 inch, (580 x 244 x 290 mm). Net weight: 24 lb, 3.7 oz (11kg). The radio has the typical design of Hans Gugelot, he designed 1955 the Music cabinet Phonosuper SK4, consisting of a wooden cabinet made of maple and is fitted with a tube radio chassis, a record player and broadband speaker. The last model of the series, this offered Phonosuper SK55, a combination with the radio chassis RC 32 and the turntable P2. It just fits into any living room. This radio is pleasent and certainly is an eye-catcher. The housing is made of metal, the side parts are made of wood and the cover. Made of acrylic glass. The cabinet and the cover have signs of wear and minor scratches. I cleaned the chassis as well as the housing very carefully, but traces of age and use can be seen. Because of their age many electronic components are subject to deterioration and wear. For theses reasons I have these parts replaced with high-quality, new components. Please note, this analog radio-phono combination is more than fifty years old. A comparison with digital combinations of today are not possible. All have been carefully restored and works very well. After all, it is nearly sixty years old. However, I would point out that the combination, perhaps sometime in the future, may have an error. But even in this case a solution is possible. Attached are the service manuals and schematics, so a good technician can perform possible repairs. Still, if you have any questions about this wonderful device, please contact me. The radio does not have built-in antennas. An FM antenna is included. Please note this is a Europaen model, FM works up to 104MHz (almost up to 105MHz). I´m using a check-list with many points for all work which has to be done in an old tube-radio. The furniture was cleaned and polished, but I get his old patina. The finish is original, certainly has the crazing in the finish that is so common to these radios, but it is still shiny and attractive. The original bottom panel is also in place. Please look to the pictures carefully. Traces of use the radio shows make it a beautiful antique. This beauty radio with it’s lovely furniture, dial glass and furniture must not be damaged. I will package this radio personally to make sure it is done correctly. This is a used radio from my collection and it is offered by private. Usual signs of use are not listed separately and are no cause for complaint. The combination has a very high weight. That’s why I send the radio in two packages. In the first package are the radio, the record player and the speakers. The second package is the base and the glass plate. Assembling is very simple. Your questions will be answered professionally. I’m radio and television master of the “old school”. The training in Germany will be made dual. This is of great advantage. It means the trainee is formed parallel in the company and at school. The company provides practical knowledge and the school teaches the theoretical fundamentals. After three and a half years there is a final exam in theory and practice. By the master exam is possible to open his own business and young people to train. My training in the craft began in 1967 as the tube technology was at its peak. Over time I have repaired several thousand devices expertly. All offered radios are in my collection for decades. Now I reduce my collection and offering some special pieces here. Braun, some interesting facts. The company Max Braun oHG was founded in 1921 by the engineer Max Braun in Frankfurt. 1923 constructed Max Brown his first radio and produced for the expanding radio industry tube socket and accessories. The great success encouraged him to move already two years later in a new factory building. There, the production of an amplifier for the sound of large events began. At the end of the decade, Brown took over the production of radio receivers in license by Carl Sevecke. With the beginning of 1933 the development and production of self-developed radio began. These were the models Mozart, Edel-Super and Super W4, and the production of the Volksempfänger. The first predecessor of SK55 was music combination Phono-Super 637GW. At 1936, the first portable radios were designed and manufactured. Due to the war years the company Braun had to take over the production of armaments. In 1944 the Frankfurt factories were destroyed by air raids. The production facilities were built after the war. In addition to other equipment there began the production of the first dry shaver Model 50S. After the sudden death of Max Braun 1951 (he was only 61 years old) took his sons Artur and Erwin Braun company. Erwin Braun formed the appearance of the company completely around. He changed the face in the company and unified the product range. A fundamentally new was the thought to establish a department for design. Here new products should be developed, which should be distinguished by a different appearance from the crowd of other manufacturers. It emerged in teamwork most products and designs. Very farsighted was also collaborating with the School of Design in Ulm, Germany, here the foundations were laid for the world-famous Braun design. Important names for product design were beside Fritz Eichler, also Hans Gugelot, Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Herbert Hirche and Dieter Rams. Early pioneering products in the radio range are the small tube radio SK 1 and the radio-phonograph combination series “PK-G”. Reactions to the straightforward style, which was characterized by its clear forms, could not be greater. Some loved the Braun design, others despised him. It was especially the elite who was enthusiastic about the design and was in accordance with purchasing power. Only gradually copied some manufacturers the design, it was the so-called Nordic style in the sixties. The last Braun appliances with the model name Atelier was delivered in the year 1990. Braun sk 55 radiogram. This particular radio-phonograph combination is in. Original vintage cosmetic condition. It has a four speed record player with 78, 45, 33, 16 rpm. The tube radio picks up lw, mw, and ukw signals (broadcast, long wave, and fm). This combination was designed by dieter rams and hans gugelot (bauhaus / ulmer schule hfg aka “ulm college of design”). The beautiful translucent plastic lid gave this combination its nickname “snow white’s coffin”. This item is made up from painted steel sheet. White color, ash veneer wooden sides and beautiful translucent acrylic lid. As already mentioned cosmetics on this unit are great, with some little signs of wear. I did not enhance the pictures using photoshop, exposure tweaks or flash etc. What you see is actual color with all small marks on it you would expect from a vintage equipment made 1961. The veneers are in excellent condition with no great areas of significant loss, marks, staining, or other forms of major damage. Steel sheet is in great condition for its age. Both felt ‘dot’ pads are present to lid. Hinges, screws and lid stay: bright and free of corrosion. Acrylic lid is without cracks, splits or markings. All graphics are complete. As mentioned paint finish is in very good condition with consistent color and with no major blemish damages. Base board is excellent with valve map fixed on inside surface. Interior is clean, no rust. Weight is approx 11.5 kg or 25.4 lb. Dimensions are approx: 58 x 24,4 x 29 cm or 22.8 x 9.6 x 11.4 inch. Built-in voltage converter for 110, 125, 150, 220 and 240 volt. All switches and knobs work well treble, bass, etc. The platter will move in all speeds, plays records fine and loud, the needle is in good condition, the radio great reception. A truly design classic by dieter rams which is in many museums permanent collections, including moma and has been featured in wallpaper magazine. You can combine this combination with original braun l1 or l11 speakers. See unit in action. Braun phonosuper-sk55 radiogram // dieter rams (1932- present). The clarity of form and minimalist design vocabulary associated with the german designer dieter rams is closely identified with the braun company. Many of his designs for domestic appliances and audio equipment feature in the permanent collections of leading museums that collect and promote design, such as the metropolitan museum of modern art, in new york, which began to collect braun products in 1958. After studying architecture at the wiesbaden academy of applied arts from 1947 to 1953 he spent three years as an apprentice cabinetmaker. This was followed by a period in architectural offices until he joined braun in 1955. Rams epitomized the clean, austere appearance associated with a functional aesthetic and with associate designer, hans gugelot. The braun range won every international design prize going. At this time he was also involved in furniture development with the designer, physicist, and entrepreneur otto zapf (born 1931). As braun’s design director (from 1960), he was responsible for establishing a cleanly stated and distinctive aesthetic for a wide range of products from kitchen appliances to alarm clocks, calculators, lighters, and electric razors. This aesthetic was also in tune with the outlook of the hochschule für gestaltung (ulmer school), a progressive design academy with links to braun that had been first established in 1954. His clearly articulated and austere “606-shelf” unit for vitsoe (1960) remained in production for more than 40 years. He has held a number of academic posts including, from 1981, a professorship in industrial design in hamburg. In 1987 he became president of the german rat-f-r-formgebung (design council), which for many years had promoted the values associated with ideas of good design. In a recent design magazine (icon), rams is quoted as saying, as designers we have a great responsibility. I believe designers should eliminate the unnecessary. That means eliminating everything that is modish because this kind of thing is only short lived. Dieter rams has received many international design awards throughout his career and his work is considered to be design classics of the highest. The item “Original Vintage BRAUN SK55 Dieter Rams Design Tube Radio Gugelot Radiogram” is in sale since Saturday, November 15, 2014.
