This will play as long as you hold on to the antenna wire in the back and the tuning button. This came from a Estate Sale and was being work on so the 1 antenna wire is not hook up I would say that is the trouble and this is missing the 6 push buttons on the side and the 2 knobs. The case is in good shape as for as I can tell. All of the buttons seem to work OK. Both Antenna’s looks to be in good shape. It is old and used so does have some ware. What you see in the pictures is what you are getting so look good. This is a nice piece of History and after being Restored would make a wonderful addition to your Old Antique Radio Collection. I obtained about 80 tube radios from an estate sale. I will be listing these over the next few weeks so please see my other listings. This listing is for a WARDS AIRLINE model 62-316. 3 band (short wave, middle wave, and broad cast) BEAUTIFUL WOOD CABINET!!! Please see all pictures. Condition: The wood body has very little signs of age if any. Few scuffs and minor scratches at most. The front of the radio has a great classic look to it. Curved on one side, scrolling on the front, cool oval dial, and decorative grill. It is 17 1/2″ wide, 9 1/4″ tall, and 10 deep. ALL ORIGINAL WOOD KNOBS. All knobs rotate as they should. The grill fabric is in good shape with no stains or holes. The cord is in great shape with no shorts. The unit powers up as seen in pictures, the volume knob clicks and changed the volume, selector knob changes from SHORT WAVE to MIDDLE WAVE to BROAD CAST with no issues. It is 90% functional…. I believe that the tuner knob just needs reset at it only partially moves the dials. These radios are highly collectable and are getting harder to find online. It will be protected well and insured. VTG Hallicrafters S-53A Tube AM Band Shortwave SWL Amateur Radio Receiver WORKS

Introduced in 1951 as an upgrade for the S-53, the 8 tube S-53A is a transformer-operated single-conversion general coverage receiver with a separate oscillator and mixer and two stages of IF. The major difference between the earlier 53 and the “A” model is the use of small IF transformers in the “A”. It also covers 48 to 54.5 MHz, the 6 meter band. In size, the S-53A is only slightly larger than the S-38. Shows some signs of wear from age and use. The outer metal case has some grime and minor corrosion, as well as some of the metal on the inside. All functionality works as far as I can tell. The speaker cone has a few small tears but still sounds fine. I fixed a couple of splits in the wires to the speaker with solder and electrical tape. All of the tubes inside work. The two inner lamps both work. The knobs and switches are slightly dirty but in good condition otherwise. I cleaned the volume and sensitivity control terminals so they are no longer scratchy sounding. The power cord may not be original, but is in good condition. Please see photos for more details. This is Portable will run on Battery or 110 volt. One tube lights up in this the rest can not see if lite but no sound comes out of it. The front cover & handle is missing & the Alligator Case has ware. All of the buttons seam to work OK. The Wavemagnet Antenna looks to be in good shape but the other Antenna has the button off of the top. It is old and used so does have some ware. What you see in the pictures is what you are getting so look good. This is a nice piece of History and after being Restored would make a wonderful addition to your Old Antique Radio Collection.
