I plugged it in an hear a buzz from the speaker that’s all I can say. Looks good for its age. You probably know more than I do about it. Looks good I wiped it off had some dust on it.

This is an early 1950′s Philco tabletop radio, model 53-960, circa 1953. The radio is quite large with a 10″ speaker, measuring 22.5″ wide, 16″ high, and 12.5″ deep. It also has a built in antenna that extends 53 inches. It weighs in atalmost 35 1bs. 25M, 19M, 16M and 13M. It has several scratches and some knicks to the mahogany wood. The backing is missing. The antenna is in fine shape and extends over 4 feet tall. It is very heavy at nearly 34 lbs. The plug in has been repaired and rigged with 2 different wires but it does work when plugged in. I have listened to different stations on it, I have also picked up faint (fuzzy sounding) signals from stations out of other countries overseas. The radio could definitely use a tune up/cleaning and perhaps replacement of the bulbs along the back side. It will definitely be a beautiful and unique piece once restored and in the hands of a knowledgeable person.

Included is the operating guide and other papers it came with. However, they have A LOT of stains and tears; some of the pages are still stuck together. Great piece of ZENITH history… But very nice vintage condition. When I bought it recently, it had a musty basement odor which has pretty much gone away with the help of GONZO. It has a pleasant scent now. (maybe a hint of mustiness). Works really well after warming up. In the evening, quite a few more come on. Heard a foreign language channel last night. I don’t understand how the side buttons work so I can’t verify anything about them. Antenna extends about 32.

The cord has been replaced but the radio does not turn on. Speaker cloth mesh is in perfect condition, the wood is also excellent, with two small “chips” as shown in pics. Push buttons seem to work, but don’t see, to move the dial needle. The tuning dial moves freely. No guarantee tubes are good, electric connectors work, or parts in need of replacement. Definitely needs work to get it operating condition. Size 15″ L x7″W x 11 H.

1948 – RCA RCA Victor Co. 6 tubes, 12BA6, 12BE6, 12BA6, 12AT6, 35C5, 35W4. AC/DC SET – 115 Volt. The radio measures approximately. 12.7 X 8 X 7.2 inches. Cylinder players & cylinders. I removed the chassis so you could see what shape it is in. I think you’ll agree it is a nice radio at a fair price. Don’t wait until the last minutes as I may not be able to get you an answer. My shop is full of LED lights and I must turn them off because they interfere with reception. Some static also was heard when tuning through the dial. The electrolytics have not been replaced and all the old paper caps remain in place. All is original as best I can determine. Please see the pictures. The case is good condition, I saw no breaks or cracks in the case. The repainted cabinet looks good and the dial lens is clear. The vent is taped to the cabined inside and the paint has nicks and scratches as seen in the pictures. The chassis is clean and shows no rust. The on/off volume works properly. The tuning throughout the dial works well with no binding up. The dial string is in place and works well. The dial rotates to a mark at the top and bottom of the clear lens to indicate station selection. Please examine all the pictures closely. The power cord is in good condition and looks to be original to the radio. The loop antenna is in good shape and is attached to the chassis and comes out of the case with the chassis. The speaker is in good condition. Even though this radio is working at the present time one needs to remember that this radio is. With all original electrical parts. It should not be used as a daily player unless serviced. I use new boxes and new and recycled packing materials unless noted otherwise. This radio is wrapped in bubble wrap. Boxed in a new box with packing material to hold the radio securely. I double boxed this radio in another box as carefully as I know how. I want the radio to arrive safely to you in one piece as you see in the pictures. The outer box is 16×12 x12 inches and weighs 12 lbs.
