Tube Radio Vintage

George Westinghouse would have been mighty proud of this radio! It was also considered a high end radio, especially during the height of great depression. The cabinet is a combination of different wood veneers and solids that blend perfectly for a wonderful display that is in overall excellent condition. Note the unique way the trim snakes around the radio from top to bottom – much different that other radios of the day. Also take note how the band switch position colors match the dial face. It has a masterful, yet warm and inviting look about it. It sounds great too, with the rich and mellow tube sound through a 6 1/2 speaker. It also has bass/treble tone control for your listening preference. Of course, as with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished and rejuvenated. The top to bottom trim was redone with brown mahogany toners to match the original finish. The entire cabinet was then given seven coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. The glass dial face is in excellent condition with crisp and clear multicolored graphics that are softly lighted. The original wooden knobs have been cleaned, rejuvenated and. The grill cloth was replaced with a period correct one. The power cord was replaced, using the original plug. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. There is a sliver of veneer missing from the repaired left side as can be seen. The photos tell the rest of the story about the excellent overall condition of the cabinet and how well the restoration turned out. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The original speaker is in excellent condition and sounds great. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the 12 foot external antenna (provided). This highly collectible and rare radio demands a place of distinction. It is highly unlikely you will find another of this model in this restored condition for a long time, if ever. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories it has broadcast over the past 84 years! Now newly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
