Rare Vintage 1938 Zenith Art Deco Radio 5-S-228 For Restoration

Zenith tube radio 5-S-228. Mostly restored, however did it used some kind of stain that is more like paint? Veneer is in excellent condition. Burlap grill cloth has been replaced. Original glass dial is in very nice condition, including the brass bezel original knobs. Radio appears to be complete. Looks like a Bluetooth plug was added. Radio turns on, dial lights up but I could not tune in any stations. I think an antenna is required? Original knobs, all work and dial turns smoothly as it should. Not sure if this is the original cord. Please see photos for condition.

This vintage Electrohome World Cruiser radio is a true gem from the 1950s. Made in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, it is a piece of history that will transport you back in time. Description: This is a fully restored and functional NANAO RADIO “Kokumin 4-go” tube radio, a remarkable piece of mid-century audio history. Tubes: Equipped with four vintage ST tubes: UZ-6D6, UZ-6C6, 6Z-P1, and KX-12F. Speaker: Original field coil speaker replaced with a permanent type “NOBEL / PD-65KP, ” paired with the existing OPT and a 3K? 3W resistor for power smoothing. Left side: Power switch (replaced with a similar type). Front panel: Tuning dials for playback and main variable capacitors, and volume control. Replaced damaged power and speaker cords. Installed new 22µF 450V electrolytic capacitors (x3). Repaired and stabilized the antenna coil and fuse holder. Applied oil maintenance to tuning and mechanical components. Cleaned chassis inside and out for a polished finish. Renewed speaker cloth with a fresh fabric. Fully functional with clear sound and no “scratchy” noises in the controls. Minor cosmetic flaws include a 1×1 cm heat-related hole in the central dial plate, repaired for stability. Signs of age and use consistent with its vintage nature. Height: 26.5 cm.
