HERE IS A REALLY TOUGH RADIO TO FIND. THIS IS A SELDOM SEEN CLIMAX CATHEDRAL RADIO, WITH THE CLIMAX DIAL. CLIMAX PUT RADIOS IN UNDER OTHER BRANDS, BUT RARELY WERE FOUND WITH THEIR OWN BRAND AND DIAL. THIS RADIO APPEARS IN WONDERFUL ORIGINAL CONDITION. THE CABINET IS REALLY NICE, AND ONE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS IT LOOKS REFINISHED, BUT IT IS NOT. THE CHASSIS IS TOTALLY CLEAN AND NICE AS WELL. HAS ORIGINAL GRILL CLOTH WITH NO RIPS, AND ORIGINAL KNOBS. AS WITH ANY ANTIQUE RADIO, YOU WILL NEED TO BRING IT UP ON A VARIAC TO SEE IF IT WORKS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL WANT TO RECAP THE SET. We describe everything we sell as accurately as possible and will be happy to answer any questions you have before or after the sale. In the unlikely event you should have a problem with your item we will treat you fairly and do whatever we can to resolve the problem. The chassis is a 4589 but the case is a 4569 and is marked as such on the underside, see the photo. Its in a bad state right now. Dial appears to be slightly loose as it moves a little when the knobs are turned. I can only imagine how nice this was when new, and how great it would look if someone who knows what they are doing put the time in. I strongly recommend that you do not plug this radio in unless you are a trained professional as it was designed to operate at a time when the output from your wall socket was around 110 volts or slightly less than the 120 to 130 that we have now. The capacitors are likely bad and if plugged in the transformers will be at risk. This radio has the prettiest dial I’ve seen in a long time and this is really the only part of the radio thats in nice condition. Knowledgeable collectors are contacting me stating that the case and chassis were not together originally. This is consistent with the case number and and chassis number being different and the way the knobs don’t fit correctly on the shafts. Description: Philco Model 38-15 Art Deco Wood Table Radio. ITEM: Philco Model 38-15 Wood Table Radio. It was manufactured c. 1938 in Philadelphia PA. It was designed to operate using standard 110v household current. This is a nice looking pre-war radio. The gold dial survives in great condition. There is no paint loss on the dial. The grill cloth has been replaced with a historically accurate reproduction. Felt pads on the radios bottom protect what the radio is set upon. New knob felts installed behind the three original bakelite knobs protect the radios finish. The original back is missing, if there ever was one. The cabinet was refinished using wood filler, stain, toner lacquer, and several coats of wiped on finish. The contrasting veneer along the bottom and across the top from front to back sets off nicely the art deco styling of the cabinet. The five tube chassis is free from any rust. The power cord is a new, flexible replacement. The three original brown bakelite knobs operate as they should. The volume control is a bit scratchy when adjusting the volume. Extending the long wire antenna will improve reception. This radio and all vintage radios that have survived well past their intended life span should be played sparingly, and should not be left playing unattended. This radio will fit well into any art deco inspired home or office, and would be a nice addition to your radio collection. DIMENSIONS: 11 1/2 Wide x 8 Tall x 6 Deep. WEIGHT: 10 1/2 Pounds. VINTAGE 1934 DECO WESTINGHOUSE TOMBSTONE RADIO #WR-23 NICE

This two tone deco radio cabinet shows normal signs of age and wear: some light surface scratches, dinks & dents (mainly around the edges), minor flaking of the finish (mainly in the black paint on the top edge), etc… But no cracks, breaks or missing veneer that I can see. There is one scratch about 2 long on the right hand side panel that has penetrated the finish, but it has been blended in nicely. It has its four original metal and felt feet. The thick grill bars are solid wood with no cracks or breaks that I can see. The grill cloth, from what I can see of it, is extremely nice showing minor wear. The metal escutcheon, dial and pointer are excellent. A neat feature of this radio is when turning the knob going from band to band, the dial moves up or down accordingly. The wood rosette knobs are all present, in excellent condition and turn freely. The chassis is very clean and appears to be complete with tubes. The power cord has wear to the outer cloth covering, but no bare wire is showing and is missing its plug. Sorry guys, I’m not that brave! The cone of the speaker, from what I can see of it without physically tearing this apart, has no holes, tears or rips. There is a nice paper identification / tube layout label on the back of the chassis. This set measures approx. 16″ wide, 9″ deep and 18 tall. A good looking solid radio! If you look at the picture of the ad I took, it explains it better than I can. With that being said, the cabinet itself shows minor signs of age and wear: some very light surface scratches and dinks & dents (mainly around the edges). The lyre grill on the front and the decorative grill on the back are solid. The cone of the speaker has no holes, tears or rips that I can see without physically tearing this apart. The light spot you see in the picture of the front looks like a discoloration of the cone. It does not go through to the back side and it is not a hole. It isn’t as obvious in person. It is the flash of the camera that really makes it more pronounced. It also could be something that was dripped on it. The power cord shows minor wear to the outer cloth covering, has no bare wires showing and has both end tips present and securely attached. I tested this with a 9 volt battery and got the familiar clicking sound so the driver is good (works). 13″ wide, 4 1/2″ deep and 14 tall.
