This radio is in Good condition. I powered on the radio and it powers on fine. All of the tube glow when plugged in. The radio is in Good cosmetic condition. The radio has all of its original knobs and buttons present and intact. The chrome Deco siding is great. All of the knobs move as they should. The radio measures approx. 19 wide by 10 1/2 tall by 12 deep. I took a lot of pictures to show you what you are receiving. Please look at the pictures as to the condition of the item. This receiver is in fair cosmetic condition. The cabinet has been repainted at some point, and the workmanship isn’t the best. The original paint wasn’t removed, so you can see scratches and such under the new paint. All controls turn smoothly. The chassis is clean. We didn’t not take off the bottom cover due to time constraints, but my guess is that it’s either all original or will have some new capacitors installed. So far, none of the equipment from this estate has been modified or hacked up, so I’m confident this receiver is no different. We’ve powered it up and the tube filaments illuminate, but no further testing has been performed. This equipment is part of a very large silent-ley estate we recently acquired, all of which has been in a storage unit for approximately 15 years. We have not done any testing beyond what is specifically mentioned above. There are a few reasons for this, but it essentially comes down to the fact that they almost always need some level of service and it’s simply not cost effective to pay our technician to spend time going through them. It may or may not need components replaced (caps, resistors, tubes, etc), controls cleaned/lubricated, alignment, and so on. Unless you are qualified and capable of working on this unit yourself, or are willing to pay a qualified individual to do the work for you, we suggest you revisit the idea of whether this is the right equipment for you. National Panasonic Model RE-784A. Vacuum tube audio still finds a niche market within the audiophile community. Tube amplification is known for its warmer sound, and known to bring out the fullest of analog media, when compared to solid state audio components. One feature of the FM band for this radio is AFC tuning, that allowed the listener to “lock-in” an FM station without having to worry about station Drifting or drops in audio volume associated with FM station tuning. The radio is rather small when compared to other tube radios available at the time, with the cabinet (not including 4 hard rubber feet) measuring approx. 17.3 × 8.7 × 6.3 inches and weighing in at just a couple pounds. Several options for the case were available, including acrylic. However, wooden cases were more common and constructed from a sturdy laminated plywood with a finished (typically walnut) veneer. The rear of the case was made from fiber pegboard material to allow proper ventilation of heat generated by the tubes inside. The tubes are user-replaceable and are easily accessible with the removal of the 3 Philips screws on the back of the unit.
