MUSEUM QUALITY 1938 ZENITH CONSOLE RADIO 12-S-265 FULLY RESTORED. For Sale here is a 1938 Zenith console Radio model 12-s-265. It is Fully Restored electronically but the cabinet finish is original in excellent condition!!! Comes with a RARE 6T5 Magic Eye Tube installed that was original to this console AND as an Extra Bonus an ipod jack has been installed to also play your own music through this zenith console. The 12 tube chassis has been Fully Restored with all new capacitors. The Resistors were replaced as needed. All the tubes are the ST type (coke bottles) and are Zenith labeled as came originally in 1938. All tubes were tested and are 90% or Better with the rare 6T5 eye tube being NOS. Any wires that were close to being dried or starting to harden were also replaced. The chassis is extremely clean and has no rust or damage. The magic tuning eye tube in this console is the extremely RARE and hard to find 6T5 “target eye” eye tube, and it is NOS. It was used solely by zenith and only for the model year 1938 I believe. Almost all the time you find these with the common and easy to find 6U5 or 6E5 eye tube. These two aforementioned tubes open an eye as a pie shape at the bottom of tube. The 6T5 eye tube opens and closes as a Bullseye (see pictures). The finish is original and in impeccable condition for this 78 year old radio. The grille cloth is RARE also. It is a new reproduction grille cloth that is exactly like the original. Both dial light bulbs have been replaced with new ones so dial lights nicely in dim room lighting. It retains its Original Wood “Z” Knobs with no chips or damage. The large speaker is called an “Acoustic Adaptor Speaker”. You can push the cover that’s over the speaker in or out as you choose. This will change the amount of Bass/Treble sound coming from the front of the speaker. It has the Largest Black Dial Zenith ever made. This dial is called a “Shutter Dial”. The tuning can be accomplished the normal way by turning the tuning knob to your station of choice but also on this radio it has an option called “split second tuning”. This is a Motorized Tuning Method. You can turn and hold the tuning knob and it has a motor that spins the dial indicator for you at a high rate of speed to get from one end of the dial to the other very quickly. The radio plays Loud and Clear. The shortwave also works. The dial is the famous “shutter dial” and all Three Dials are clean and free of any “alligatoring” or defects.
