This majestic pre WWII radio must have been quite the modern marvel when it was new. The rich wood veneer blends and book end top are in excellent condition, especially given its age. The black lacquer grill and bottom trim bring out the warmth and beauty of the cabinet. Add to that the functional push button tuning and bright green magic tuning eye, and it is a beautiful sight to behold! The dial bezel and push button escutcheon were lightly polished, leaving some of the age patina. Using an external wire antenna (provided). It boasts the rich and mellow tube sound that has a control knob for adjusting the treble/bass for your listening preference. And of course a. S with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. This is a rare radio and there probably were not a lot of them made, as they were probably fairly expensive. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished, rejuvenated and balanced. The bottom trim and grill were redone with black lacquer to match the original. The entire cabinet was then given eight coats of clear lacquer with excellent results and the photos speak for themselves. The dial face is in very good condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted by two bulbs. The copper push button escutcheon shows some minor stressing or bending of the metal due to an unknown cause, but does not detract from the overall appearance of the radio. The grill cloth was replaced. He knobs were polished and have the original felt washers. The power cord was replaced, using the original plug. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The dial cord was replaced. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the external wire antenna. This beautiful and larger radio has a commanding presence and should be displayed in a prominent location. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories this wonderful radio has broadcast. It would be a wonderful as a gift or as an addition to the collection. Ewly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. Very rare indeed, there are very few of this radio available today. I would think that was because of WWII, production was stopped. With a gorgeous Ingraham cabinet in excellent condition (see photo of bottom label), this upscale tri-band radio has some wonderful features. Starting with the cabinet, it has multiple inlays of various wood veneers and solids. The stepped frontispiece with the goldtone bands displays wonderful wood grains. And of course the green “magic eye” tuning indicator really makes the dial face stand out. It has a stately, yet warm and inviting look about it. It sounds great too, with the rich and mellow tube sound through a 6 1/2 speaker. It also has tone control for your listening preference. Of course, as with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished and rejuvenated. The top and bottom trim were redone with dark walnut toners to match the original finish. The entire cabinet was then given seven coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. The slide rule dial face is in excellent condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted in addition to the magic eye. The original knobs have been cleaned and polished. Two of the knobs have minor warping. The power cord was replaced. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. The photos tell the rest of the story about the overall condition of the cabinet and how well the restoration turned out. The original speaker is in excellent condition and sounds great. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the 12 foot external antenna (provided). This highly desirable and rare radio demands a place of distinction. It is highly unlikely you will find another of this model in this restored condition for a long time, if ever. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories it has broadcast over the past 78 years! Now newly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. This is a stunning, rare and beautiful radio that also has fantastic sound. Made in 1937, the cabinet has wonderfully rich and warm walnut inlays that balance perfectly with the large dial face and green “magic” tuning eye. With seven tubes, it has excellent sensitivity, selectivity and reception. It also has tone control for your listening preference. The tube sound is unmistakably rich and pleasant on this radio. With all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished and rejuvenated and the top and bottom trim were redone with dark walnut toners. The entire cabinet was then given eight coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. There is some veneer edge missing from the top/rear as can be seen in the photos. There is a missing lower grill piece that was irreparably damaged and completely removed and now it looks like just like it was made that way. None of those detract from the overall wonderful appearance of the radio and the photos speak for themselves. The dial face is in excellent condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted by two bulbs and there is an indicator that shows which band is selected. And of course the green magic eye really sets it off. The original glass dial cover and Bakelite escutcheon have been polished and are in very good condition. The bezel is in excellent original condition. He original knobs perfectly match the trim toners and have been polished. The grill cloth is the original. It has a small amount of wear and a few marks, but I thought it important to keep, as it helps to maintain the originality of the radio. (The new owner can of course have a new grill cloth installed if desired) The power cord was replaced, using the original polished plug. The original speaker is in excellent condition and sounds great. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the nine foot external antenna (provided). This is a rare radio with a very appealing presence and it. Certainly demands a place of distinction and pride. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories this wonderful radio has broadcast. Now 83 years old and newly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of enjoyment if well cared for. It is a larger radio and fairly heavy. It will require special attention for packing to ensure it arrives safely. A very seldom offered or seen model, it is listed in price guides as a model #97-52, but the chassis is stamped with a #91-51. I think the chassis was used in other models after a simple google search. This streamlined mid century radio has a high gloss piano finish having been professionally restored cosmetically and electronically. The curly maple blonde with ebony finish cabinet is as art deco as was made in the pre-war era. The chrome grill bars add a very fine accent. This model features the preset push buttons and this radio was advertised as having a “Magic Keyboard”. Horizontal dial scale, this radio is ready to play, display, and enjoy!! Electronically, the chassis was completely gone over and is playing well. My technician has thoroughly restored the electronics, and added the auxiliary jack. This is a rare Depression era art deco radio that needs to be displayed, played, and enjoyed!! An exceedingly rare addition to your collection! IF you are looking for a bargain, and enjoy the pleasure that is derived from doing your own restoration at your pace, please check out these most affordable radios. You can listen to Spotify, IHeart, Pandora, Sirius XM, and many FM radio stations through this old vintage radio. The original cabinet finish is in great condition with a few minor bumps and bruises that attest to its long life, but the overall appearance is still very good. There is no missing veneer and the finish is in very nice original condition. It sounds good, too, with a replacement speaker. The sensitivity and selectivity are good, using a six foot external antenna (provided). There is a bass/treble control for your listening preference. The ever pleasing green magic eye is bright and shows up well against the black dial face. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost detail. The radio was completely disassembled and cleaned. The cabinet was gone over with a very fine steel wool, then rejuvenated to quench and nourish the wood. It was then given three coats of a beeswax/orange oil polish over two weeks to further enhance the beauty of and to protect the wood. The knobs and push buttons are original and polished. The dial face shows some minor wear in one area, but the remainder is crisp and clear and nicely lit from the pilot light. The dial cover is new and crystal clear. The power cord was replaced. As with all radios of this era having tenite materials, the bezels for the dial face and push buttons are in less than good condition- see photos. Felt pads were added to the underside to protect your furniture. The speaker was replaced. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the six foot. At 80 years old, this rare and handsome restored radio now has many more years of reliable service if properly cared for. It is a must for the collector of 1930′s radios and/or magic eye radios. It will provide an attractive treat for the eyes and ears wherever it is displayed. Dimensions: 16.5x10x7.5. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. It is rare too, as very few of these in restored condition are available. And the sound from the seven inch speaker is fantastic. With bass, treble and speech control, it is a real treat to hear and see this gem. This is a high quality radio with multiple wood species veneers and inlays. The green tuning eye is bright and very attractive. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost detail. The cabinet retains the original stain, which was rejuvenated and nourished. The top and bottom trim were redone with dark mahogany toners, which match the original Bakelite knobs. The entire cabinet was given six coats of clear lacquer. It was then waxed to further enhance the luster of the finish. The dial face has a few scratches as can be seen, but overall looks wonderful and is nicely lit from the pilot light. The dial cover is new. The grill cloth is original and in excellent condition. The power cord has been replaced, using a period correct plug. There is one minor “bug bite” to the front, and a very small area on the left rear side that has been repaired. Both can be noted in the photos, but really don’t detract from the total package of this very desirable radio. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the external antenna. At 82 years old, this completely restored radio once again looks like new. It was quite the masterpiece in its day and will now bring many more years of enjoyment if well cared for. It is a larger radio, and will certainly be the center of attention where it is displayed. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
