So Collins made some of the best sounding tube equipment from the late 1940s through the early 60s and this Collins 12Z is evidence of that. The build quality of this surpasses most other American makers of the time and rivals the German equipment made by Telefunken, EAB, and others of the same period. The 12Z is so overbuilt right down to the machined aluminum knobs. It is packed with transformers made by Thordarson, and attenuators by Daven. It is four inputs with a single output and will run on AC or batteries. All the transformers are. Good, it should be looked over by a tech to make sure all the caps are 100% before being used. This is a very tiny CRT TV. It’s kind of a novelty, as it is (fairly) modern, but is black and white, and obviously you can see through it. Pretty cool to see the inner workings. My thought is that the design might have originally been used in prisons, but then was later adapted for consumer use, but that is just a guess. It has a composite input, which is nice for connecting old game systems VCRs, etc. You would need a converter to watch any over the air TV stations. Rare Collins 12z tube preamp mixer. Tested and in working condition but could use a general run through by a tech and possible recap as the unit is all original. Vocals and bass sound huge and thick through this beauty and I have used it to great effect on a few sessions. Original front of case is not pictured but included. Power cable is not included as I didnt have the original and had to rig up a makeshift two prong cable. This radio features “Loudness” (+power) and “Bass/Treble” knobs, both in fully functioning condition. The tuning and band dial works, however the tuning marker does not move along with the channel changing. This radio powers on just fine and I was able to find a couple different stations. In addition to the tuning marker, this radio may be in need of more maintenance. I have not found any further mechanical damage though. The 54 two-pronged power cord is in great shape. This is a model C845M with unit number printed on the bottom reading “666″. It measures 15.5″x9.5″x7.75. Please see all photos for condition.
