Vintage Hopalong Cassidy Metal 1950 ARVIN 44IT Tube Radio. It is repainted in Black. Here is what I did. I replaced the electrolytic caps and then put black electrical tape on them so they don’t arc to the metal case. I replaced the volume control. I replaced on weak tube. Thjs western motif radio features a gorgeous foil front of Hopalong Cassidy standing on his horse, named Topper. The horse was discovered on a ranch in 1937 and named Topper by the wife of the actor who played Hopalong Cassidy on film and television. The horse was named after the “Topper” book series by Thorne Smith. There were a total of 66 films depicting the adventures of fictional cowboy Hopalong Cassidy. Topper did not appear in the first film, which came out in 1935, but after Hopalong’s actor William Boyd bought him in 1937, he was used in subsequent films, television episodes, and even parades and other public appearances. Boyd rode Topper until his retirement in 1953. Topper died in 1961 and is buried in Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park. Radio has been electronically restored, has original knobs, it plays well, and a chromed back panel with lariat antenna. VINTAGE, 1950′s “HOPALONG CASSIDY” TUBE RADIO by ALVIN-MODEL 441T, AC-DC. The chassis has been cleaned and upgraded along with the addition of a polarized plug by Keven of Antique Sounds of Putnam, CT. [The plug because of the electrical shock rumored to occur with this radio]. It is also said that the Arvin radios do not have strong reception. I live 30 miles from Hartford, CT. I extended the radio antenna about 3 feet. Got static and 3 stations I could understand. Measures 8″W x 5″H x 4D. The front metal is a clean, even silver color with a very small blemish at the top of the “H”[Photo 10]. The black case has a very few, very minor blemishes. Thank you for the interest. You are vintage Hopalong Cassidy Radio, made by Arvin. I don’t thin you are going to find a nicer, and more original and complete example of this radio. The radio itself, is in nm/m condition, showing only very minor paint chipping. Included with the radio is the seldom seen original box, and all paper work-instructions, guarantee card, and a picture of Hoppy. Original box is made of corrugated cardboard-it is solid and tight, with great imagery all the way around. Paperwork is great, the radio still has its’ original cord and “larietantenna” attached. You’re going to have to look for a long time to find another example of this radio in as fine and all original condition! Check out other vintage items currently listed.
