THIS GRUNOW TELEDIAL MODEL NO. 588 TUBE RADIO IS IN GOOD WORKING, UNRESTORED CONDITION. THE ORIGINAL FINISH IS STILL NICE WITH ONLY A FEW FLAWS AND STAINS, NOTHING BAD. THE CABINET IS SOLID WITH NO DAMAGE OR VENEER PROBLEMS. THE ORIGINAL GRILL CLOTH DOES HAVE SOME DAMMAGE. THE THIN BRASS TRIM PIECE THAT GOES OVER THE SPEAKER IS MISSING, NOTE THE TWO SMALL MOUNTING HOLES. THE CHASSIS IS VERY CLEAN AND IN ORIGINAL CONDITION. THE ELECTROLYTICS AND THE POWER CORD APPEAR TO BE THE ONLY COMPONENTS THAT HAVE BEEN CHANGED AND IT LOOKS LIKE THAT WAS DONE A LONG TIME AGO. I ADDED THE LONG BLUE WIRE FOR THE ANTENNA. THE RADIO DOES ACTUALLY PLAY PRETTY GOOD, BUT PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE ELECTRONICS ARE OLD AND FOR THE MOST PART ORIGINAL. THE ELECTRONICS SHOULD BE SERVICED FOR THIS RADIO TO BE IN OPTIMAL WORKING CONDITION. TWO OF THE PUSHBUTTONS ARE MISSING BUT THERE STEMS ARE STILL IN PLACE AND TWO OTHER PUSHBUTTONS ARE MISSING THEIR CLEAR PLASTIC CAPS. THIS GRUNOW IS A GREAT LOOKING RADIO AND THESE TELEDIAL MODELS ARE ALWAYS IN DEMAND BY COLLECTORS. JUST LOOK AT THAT DIAL ALL LIT UP, IT LOOKS GREAT IN A DARKENED ROOM. We offer Quality Antique Radios. To view our other antique radio auctions, as well as antique radio grill cloth. Here we have an absolutely gorgeous 1934 Grunow model 460 Tombstone / Cathedral table radio. Grunow produced this cabinet in two versions. The first being a plain walnut and the second a rare Bird’s Eye Maple. This is the Bird’s Eye Maple version and it is absolutely breathtaking. The Bird’s Eye grain is so prominent it stops you in your tracks each time you pass by. At only 13 inches high, the cabinet can be classified as a mini tombstone, or cathedral due to the rounded sides. A large Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the unusually large speaker. Jet black trim and an attractive center diamond grill design finishes the cabinet off with elegance and style. This rarely seen radio is sure to be the main attraction of any room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The round backlit dial lights nice and bright with a warm orange glow. All letters and numbers indicating station frequencies are legible and show virtually no signs of wear. The Grunow logo graces the center along with the sleek airplane style pointer. The dial cover is clear and free from any chips, cracks or breaks. All three wood knobs are in great shape and control the following: tuning, on/off and volume. The 1930s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a whiskey. Gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. All tubes in the 4 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. For a small 4 tube chassis it performs exceptionally well. The Cabinets Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. 10W x 13H x 6 1/2D. I sell quality antique radios and describe them accurately, as can be confirmed with my outstanding feedback. My radios are expertly packed using oversized boxes, many layers of bubble wrap, and several inches of packing peanuts surrounding each side of the radio so you can be assured they arrive safely. If your radio arrives and does not work please let us know. We will gladly walk you through the process of troubleshooting to get it started. The tubes, capacitors, resistors, and filters. However, if at any time these parts would happen to fail, we will assist in repairing or replacing the defective part at minimal cost. Finally, in very rare instances, if there is. If that is the case with your country, you assume the risk of any damage or undelivered package. Antique tube radio reception can differ greatly depending on location, length of antenna, and amount of interference in different areas. Playing capability is accurately described based on my location, surroundings, and hooked up to a 12 copper line antenna. The antenna will be included with the sale but I cannot guarantee reception quality in your area. It may differ (better or worse) depending on your location, surroundings, and interference. We offer Quality Antique Radios. To view our other antique radio auctions, as well as antique radio grill cloth. To add us to your favorites. The American walnut cabinet is just gorgeous. A matched butt swirling grain flows throughout the front and sides with zebra stripe inlays on the top and bottom. A large wrap around grill is accented by elegant brass trim that matches the brass’Teledial’. Protruding claw feet and jet black edges add the perfect finishing touches to this Art Deco beauty. A definite conversation piece no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The brightly lit’Teledial’ is a real head turner! Not seen on too many radios of this era, it gets its nickname by the resemblance of an old telephone dial. Small pushbuttons are located around the dial, and when pushed and turned, the dial will automatically stop at its intended location (when set). Quite a unique feature! Yet another unique feature is when tuning, the entire dial turns while the large Grunow pointer stays stationary. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show little signs of wear. All three knobs are perfect and work as follows; on/off & volume, band switch, and tuning. The 1930′s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a classic gold background with a herringbone design. All tubes in the 6 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. I’m able to receive many stations, near and far, with great tone and plenty of volume. I’m also able to receive quite a few stations on the shortwave band, especially at night. The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. This radio is beautiful! The finish is very nice it would look great in any collection! The radio does power on and I can hear static. I did not hook it up to an antenna. The face/dial lights up as it should when powered on. The tuning knob is very loose (it pulls right off) so it will need some adjustment. As you can see from the pictures, the interior looks very clean and all original. The radio had been in storage for several years so I’m sure that it could use a good/thorough cleaning.
