Vintage Zenith Model 8-S-154 radio chassis, that is perfect for a restoration project. The sound is strong and crisp. Chassis is very clean and free of rust and corrosion. The dial mechanism is not working, as the rubber pulley is missing. The dial glass is in great condition, but detached from the dial itself. It will be wrapped and placed in a separate box, within the main package. Power cord is spliced and should be replaced. Four chassis bolts- 2 original are included. Do not hesitate to make an offer, all will be considered.

His highly desirable Zenith does power on and it receives stations. The sound quality is good but it could definitely benefit from being electronically serviced. The automatic tuning appears to work but it is very finicky. The electronics are for the most part original except for the electrolytics and the power cord, they seem to have been replaced a long time ago. The chassis is nice and unmanaged. The cabinet’s cosmetics are good with no real damage to mention, just honest wear and patina. The cabinet is solid and there is no damage to the veneer. The finish does show some wear and blemishes, but it is nothing disappointing. The 12 unique glass rods are a fantastic design element that is not found on any other radio. This Zenith may be far from being in collector quality condition, but it is a working survivor that does display well. If you have any questions or need additional pictures, please ask. RR3404.5 made in Italy, this is a rare prototype for the foreign market. The case has been made with glass mirror mosaic tecnique and it’s a real masterpiece. Number of chassis is 15941 and it’s the same of the original tubes. This radio has been tested and it’s working but due to the age I suggest a full complete refurbish. As You can see the chassis it’s a bit bent. Antique 1938/1939 Zenith 5R317 tube radio in excellent working and looking condition. Electrically restored and cabinet is refinished. Very clean example and is a model sought after by collectors. Plays well, receiving several stations with no hum or scratchy volume. Manual tuner works fine with an illuminated dial but didnt try the auto-tune. Escutcheon has a couple of scuffs on it. Wood cabinet is beautiful with apparently all original glass rods, push-buttons and knobs. Chassis & components look original including the speaker. This is the 5 tube version, looking identical to the 6D317 model. Missing is the back panel and repros are available if desired. This is how I acquired the set and have no information on its history, electrical parts replaced or who did the work. Ive photographed the underside so you can examine it yourself. Not a radio expert, please review all photos as they are part of the description. It will be double boxed and fully insured with signature needed. A rare, beautiful and unique display radio for your collection that is more importantly plug & play. Zenith’s model 5-R-317 Glass Rod radios were marketed as “The World’s Fair Special” for the 1939 model year to coincide with The New York Worlds Fair. Also illustrated in a scene from the 1942 movie Woman of the Year, example seen below. These are automatically added to the final invoice and I’m not able to delete or adjust them. Also, recently Fed Ex and the other carriers have dramatically increased costs when factoring even a small amount of dimensional weight (size of the box).
