Rare, hard to find Fairbanks-Morse, what I believe to be the Model 8AT8 tabletop tube radio that is in good working condition. I did not test the Police band, as it is hard to find anything on that frequency. Electronically, the radio maintains it’s full 8 tube compliment and is very clean. All of the knobs turn smoothly and properly and the dial indicator works as well. There is a new dial belt which moves the dial indicator. The power cord is brand new. Grill cloth is in excellent condition, with no rips or holes. The finish on the radio is all original, but unfortunately the veneer is bubbling, lifting and cracking in a number of spots, as well a few tiny veneer chips along the back edge on the left side. There also appears to be a small patch along the upper right rear side of the radio that is well done. Someone who is better at woodworking than me will be able to address the veneer issues. Despite the veneer flaws, the radio is very attractive and very sought after. The radio looks great powered up and is a must have for the discerning collector. Do not miss out on this opportunity to add this iconic radio to your collection. Do not hesitate to make an offer, all will be considered.

This is the most beautiful radio I have ever owned in my life. I do not want to sell but must sell dues to circumstances. It does play on all bands but the tuning dial belt just broke. I do not have the time to order a new belt but they are easy to find on line and are very cheap. This radio would look good in the home or office. The dial does light up in different colors depending on which band you are on. It does have 3 bands. Medium Wave, Shortwave 1 & Shortwave 2 for 3 bands total. Wow, what a stunning radio! This beautiful and alluring gem is a fine example of the Art Deco style and will be a treasured addition to any collection. The very colorful and well lit dial face is in excellent condition and really sets this radio off. The face wood grains are just wonderful and add to the fine quality of this radio. It also has a high-low tone control for your listening preference. This is a radio that is not run of the mill and fairly hard to find restored such as this one is. The cabinet retains the original stains, which were rejuvenated and enhanced to nurture the wood veneers. The feet and trim were redone with dark mahogany toners to match the original presentation. The entire cabinet was given six coats of a high quality clear lacquer finish with fabulous results. As a final step it was waxed to further bring out the wood grains beauty. The dial graphics are crisp and clear. The dial cover, grill cloth and power cord have been replaced. It uses the original oak leaf motif ivory colored plug. The Bakelite knobs are original. The cabinet has a few very minor dings commensurate with age, including a small spot on the right side upper rear where the veneer had split. It has been stabilized and repaired. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using a six foot external wire antenna. At 82 years old and newly restored, this high class radio will bring visual and audio pleasure for many years to come if well cared for. It will be quite the conversation piece and the perhaps the envy of other collectors. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off.
