Vintage Art Deco BAKELITE Radio Speaker’54 Phillips Portable Extension Philtone

An Excellent item to add to your. Fabulous 1954 Model Philitone Phillips. Brown Mottled Bakelite Speaker. Style is in an Art Deco Bakelite. It is a portable extension table speaker by Phillips. That were also manufactured by Phillips Electric IND of N. Z limited New Zealand. Volume is adjusted by the White Bakelite knob on the top of the case &. Would connect via the terminals shown. This model is also only one sided with the Phillips Logo. Some were put out with the logo both sides. I have no way of testing to see if it is in working condition. I presume not as the outer terminals are quite worn. There are no major chips or cracks, It really is in lovely condition. If you look at the photos shown you may see some nibbling around the joins. Quite hard to see with the naked eye. The Speaker measures approx 23 cm high including the knob. 19 cm in diameter & about 12 cm wide. From my personal collection of Bakelite. Up for sale here is this set of 2 vintage GE SP-20B wireless extension speakers. They appear to be circa 1964. These are for a GE console (not included) and have some way of wirelessly receiving music from the console. Each speaker has an AC cord, small speaker (looks like 6.5 to me), and a small tube amplifier. The side of each speaker has a loudness knob, a tone knob, and a small pilot light. These are really neat, and are in pretty good shape, with light to moderate overall wear. You could make them into neat little guitar amps, use them as intended, whatever you want! These are completely untested and will probably need at least basic recap work and possibly more. Lease see my pictures for details. If you have any questions, please ask. Vintage! KLH model 8 FM radio with speaker & extension speaker

When I found this set it was in really rough shape cosmetically (see the last photo). It was filthy, and has probably not had use for 2-3 decades. It had this hideous red tack paper on both the radio and the speakers. It took me several hours to painstakingly remove the red covering, but fortunately the original wood cabinets were left well preserved. I used a non-petroleum based type of Goo-Gone to remove the stickiness from the wood. There may be a few small spots here and there that are still a little sticky. I then used Murphy’s wood cleaner. The radio has a few light scratches on the top of the cabinet, but you have to be up close to see them. The speaker cloths may have some staining or fading, I’m not sure exactly what color they are supposed to be. This is the first model 8 I have ever come across. The reason I would imagine for the scarcity of these radios, is that they were expensive when new. This a mono FM only tube radio. I powered it up slowly on a Variac, but found that the original power supply electrolytic capacitor is N-G, as it emits a loud 60 cycle hum regardless of volume setting. The original owner put a switch on the main speaker, probably so that if they did not feel like listening, they could just have the extension speaker on in a different room. The extension speaker has some extra wire spliced in. This is a perfect candidate for restoration! The radio has the original schematic diagram attached to the bottom of the cabinet.
