1948 General Electric 113 Bakelite Tube Radio. Presented here for your consideration is this museum quality 1948 bakelite gem from General Electric. Visually attractive mid compact cabinet size with a uniquely streamlined cabinet design. Featuring a dial pointer that also acts as the tuning knob, this charming design is restored and ready for your listening enjoyment. Rich and dark chocolate colored bakelite with deep and subtle tiger stripe marbling. Intricately and meticulously hand polished to a brilliant and natural factory fresh luster while maintaining and preserving its original and historically accurate appearance just like when it was new. It measures 6 1/4″ tall X 9 3/4″ wide. This is a fully restored and working radio. With each of my restored radios I invest significant time and attention to detail in order to bring you a radio with a level of workmanship and quality at a much higher standard than an average restoration. One that is not only worth displaying in your prized collection or proudly accenting your home or office decor, but one that will also bring you dependable and reliable listening enjoyment. In the interest of safety, performance and reliability ALL paper, wax and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced with modern day equivalents. Any resistors testing out of their allotted tolerance have been replaced. Every tube was tested and replaced if found to be under performing. Voltages are checked against the manufacturers specs. All moving parts are lubricated for smooth operation. A brand new power cord is added to replace the unsafe and brittle original. The signal strength is then aligned to factory specs to provide peak performance. Lastly, the set is then put through its paces by bench testing it for a minimum of 48 hours to ensure reliability and to allow for a proper’burn in’ period for new components. As a result of this entire restoration process, the set performs clearly, strongly and with that unmistakable tube driven sound. No cracks, breaks or chips. Dark chocolate colored bakelite with deep and subtle tiger stripe marbling throughout. Intricately and meticulously hand polished and detailed through a multi-stage process bringing the cabinet back to its original and historically accurate appearance just like when it was newly produced. All resulting in a beautifully natural and reflective luster (you can see reflections of my shop in the photos). No shortcuts are taken. No clear coats, oils or auto waxes are used. Knobs & Dial Scale. Complete with the original factory bakelite knobs. Just like the cabinet, each has been meticulously hand polished to a reflective luster with no chips, cracks or breaks. The tuning knob also acts as the dial pointer with smooth and sensitive tuning. The ivory colored dial scale numbering is in great shape with no flaking or fading – very easy to read! This set also comes complete with the original factory backboard. It shows some wear and staining but still holds strongly and securely. It’s the same backboard that it left the factory with in 1948.
