Vintage tube Radio Emerson 540 rare Red Plaskon not Catalin not Painted Working. This is a rare Emerson 540 from 1947 this was called the midget Emersonette. This radio came in four colors Ivory brown Bakelite green and red, the red and green radios are harder to find and these cases were very fragile made with Plaskon plastic as a result few have survived, nearly impossible to find without cracks or chips. This radio is not painted and is a original red Emerson 540. The radio does have hairline cracks on the bottom please see photos there are 2 hairlines in each corner coming from the screw area and two other hairline cracks I thought or scratches until I took the chassis out and inspected. There are no visible cracks or hairlines on the top-or front or sides making it a perfect displayable radio. The radio has been electronically restored and works great I was able to tune in many stations without harm or static, speaker has no cracks and vertical tuning scale slides well up and down the scale, looks like the original grill cloth has been replaced it does have the original knobs and original white paint from the Emerson logo is still there and visible Electrical cord has been replaced. Well double box this fragile radio very carefully.

I would say it is in average/decent vintage condition, showing wear as seen in photos. The case is there, but kind of rough; strap is broken. Corroded batteries were in the radio; I cleaned the terminals with baking soda and toothbrush. By no means a’restoration’ but with new batteries, the radio worked! Not perfect, but still a nice addition to your collection! I strive for accuracy in my descriptions. The photos are a significant part of the description; review them closely.

PLEASE READ FURTHER DOWN ABOUT THIS SUPER COOL LOOKING RADIO. The model number on this Stunning looking radio is UNKNOWN but it was produced in the 1940′s era. This was an extremely popular radio when it was introduced in 1940′s & is still a fairly popular & desirable radio by today’s standards. THIS VINTAGE SUPER COOL LOOKING RETRO EMERSON RADIO THAT JUST LOOKS GREAT & IT’S WORKING CONDITION IS GREAT. The cabinet on this Beauty is made of PLASKON/ Bakelite plastic & it is IVORY/OFF WHITE in color. The cabinet Does have a FEW HAIRLINE STRESS cracks. PLASKON PLASTIC IS A BREED ALL OF IT’S OWN. PLASKON PLASTICS IS KNOWN TO GET STRESS CRACKS” IN CABINETS THAT’S JUST THE NATURE OF THE BEAST/MATERIAL IT IS MADE FROM. PLASKON IS DIFFERENT THAN BAKELITE OR REGULAR PLASTIC AS IT IS SEMI TRANSLUCENT WITH LIGHT. AS YOU CAN SEE IN THE 5TH PICTURE WITH THE DIAL LIGHT LIT UP, YOU CAN SEE HOW THE DIAL LIGHT ILLUMINATES PENETRATES RIGHT THROUGH THE IVORY COLORED CABINET & ALSO IN THE 13TH PICTURE WITH THE LAMP ON BEHIND THE CABINET YOU THE LIGHT ILLUMINATES THROUGH THE FRONT OF THE CABINET. This radio has been cleaned & polished which still retains it’s original sheen or shine & that shine is now a MIRROR GLASS SHINE that keeps going & going & going like the Energizer Bunny:> I have taken many pictures so you may get a good view at this Cool looking RETRO RADIO & Great working radio. As you can see there is some where above the BLACK DIAL SCALE NUMBERS. The 2 Black colored. Control knobs are original & in fantastic looking & working condition. The back panel is in Great condition that holds on tight & secure. The chassis is in good condition & it is a 6-tube unit with 2-controls & both controls have been lubricated & are in great working condition. The 2-controls are ON/OFF/VOLUME & TUNING. The chassis has had all new electrolytic capacitor/filters installed & wax/paper capacitors were replaced AS NEEDED & a Nice New safe electric cord has been installed. This radio has been restored to Great working condition. This “EMERSON” would make an Excellent addition to your radio collection or as a stand alone radio as it’s power & beauty will surely be the talk of the room by all whom enter. Sized of this Fabulous gem is 11″ Long, 6″ Wide/Deep & 7-1/4 High. This is a vintage radio & must be handled & cared for & treated in this manor & not like a modern day boombox. Tube radio technology “unlike modern day solid state radios” can have interference/noise in the sound quality, caused by kitchen appliances, computer monitors, flat screen TV’S, florescent lights, washing machines, high power wires above your home, etc… So where you position/place this radio in your home can make a huge difference & the direction/position it is set in. A lot of tube radios are “Directional” meaning you ” MAY ” have to turn the radio one way or the other to receive the best reception. Tube radio usually take 30 to 45 seconds after they have been turned/powered ON before they will start playing as the tubes have to warm up. I package very well for a safe arrival. If you have any questions please ask & I will promptly answer & as best as I can. Please ask questions before the end of the sale & not after. Thanks for looking I appreciate it.
