A vintage 1941 Silvertone Commentator Bakelite beetle case radio. Great marbling with orange and green to the case, tube lights up but no sound and the dial cover is missing with slight wear. 1948 ARVIN RADIO VINTAGE TUBE RADIO named Rock A Billy. 9 x 5 x 6 Bakelite red radio. This is a seldom seen Deco-style radio that usually comes with brown Bakelite knobs. These rare ivory Colored knobs are original to this set, according to Sams Photofact set 42 folder 3, published in July 1948. It’s Bakelite cabinet is in perfect mint condition and has a deep red finish that retains its original beautiful shine. Its gold foil dial is in good condition and lights up beautifully in the dark. It even comes complete with the original cardboard backing, that has some wear. Ready to be restored. Which operated in Columbus from 1925 to 2011, developed a diverse product portfolio over its history. While its origins were as an automotive supplier, Arvin in 1930 – then known as Noblitt-Sparks Industries – also began producing household products at the onset of the Great Depression. By 1937, the company whose name would not become Arvin Industries for another 13 years, was making 33 different radio models for the home. Time Honored Vintage Terms of Service. The chassis is very clean with no evidence of rust or corrosion. The power cord is in good condition, but is not original. The finish on the radio is all original and has simply been cleaned and polished with a professional wood wax and presents quite well. The cabinet is marked “Craft Built” on the rear panel, which is usually not present. Grill cloths, which are on the two sides are in good condition, but the one on the left is frayed (See photo). All of the knobs turn smoothly and properly and the dial indicator functions properly as well. Great looking radio to add to your collection. Do not hesitate to make an offer, all will be considered.
This vintage radio from the 1930s is a rare find for collectors. The Porto Baradio, with its stunning Art Deco Bakelite case, is a testament to the quality and craftsmanship of American-made radios from that era. Tuner As found see pictures cord is rough but plugged in anyway, tuner dial sting is off in back, I could turn from back, hums and acts like it would tune in channel but I couldn’t get anything, pretty clean case and all buttons seem to work.
Radio only softly hums when turned on, so it will need some work to get it functioning. All of the tubes tested good on my Eico Model 625 tube tester. The chassis is very clean with no evidence of rust or corrosion. The power cord is in good condition, still plyable. The finish on the radio is all original and has simply been cleaned and polished with a professional wood wax and the burled walnut front presents quite well. The only minor defect is a small veneer sliver like chip at the top of the radio at the front edge that is difficult to detect. The cabinet is labeled “Superior” on the front and numbered 15870 on the rear. I could not find this radio listed on Radio Museum or Radio Attic’s web sites. Perhaps someone with more knowledge than I can determine the maker. Quite unique in that it is a short version of a tombstone radio. Unit stands 10.5″ tall, 12″ wide and 7 deep. Grill cloth has a tiny tear on the lower right and is a bit loose. Both knobs turn smoothly and properly and the dial indicator functions properly as well. The bands are selected by a knob in the rear of the radio. Great looking radio to add to your collection. Do not hesitate to make an offer, all will be considered.
PICTURES AND DESCRIPTION COMING SOON Zenith 6D410 vintage streamlined Art Deco style bakelite tube radio. The bakelite cabinet is in very nice condition. There is a small stress crack in the area surrounding the volume knob. This crack is clearly shown in the last picture. I slowly powered this Zenith on with a variac, and it just hummed. I have owned this little radio for many years, and it is now time to let it go along with many more from my collection.
