The wood cabinet on this radio/phono is all original & in spectacular condition. The cabinet is solid & tight that has been cleaned & polished which still retains it’s original sheen or shine. The finish looks fantastic & the grain in the wood is spectacular looking & very pleasing to the eyes to say the least. There are no scratches in the cabinet note worthy of talking about but there is a small chip in the veneer on the lower bottom right side back edge of the cabinet. This small chip in the veneer does not in any way shape of form detract from the overall beauty of this radio. I have taken many pictures so you may get a good view of this gorgeous looking & working radio/phonograph. I believe the speaker grill cloth is original & in great looking condition. The 4 brown bakelite/plastic control knobs are in great looking & working condition. The original loop antenna system on the inside is in great working condition. The chassis of the radio is in great condition & it is a 5 tube unit with 4 controls. The controls are stated from left to right, #1-ON/OFF/VOLUME #2/3 outer control BAND/PHONO inner control TONE #4-TUNING & all 4 controls work great. The chassis has had all new electrolytic capacitor/filters installed & all wax/paper capacitors have been replaced & a new electric cord has been installed. You may or may not need to stretch this long antenna wire out but it will probably assist in better SW reception. When using the SW/Overseas band will differ depending on the time of day, evening or late night hours when using this band. Shortwave usually receives best in the evening or late night hours. This radio has been restored to great working condition. As I stated Shortwave usually receives best in the evening or late night hours. The phonograph record player plays 78rpm records only. The needle on the record player had been replaced several years ago. When using the record player you must turn the BAND selector to the P position & then place a 78 rpm record on the platter & then turn the power switch “located at the end of the record/tone arm” to the ON position. Then move the record/tone arm over onto the record & she will start playing like a fiddle. This is a very nice looking & working Crosley radio record player & you will be proud to own it in your collection or as a stand alone radio/phono as it’s power & beauty will surely be the talk of the room by all whom enter. This is a vintage radio & must be handled & cared for & treated in this manor & not like a modern day boombox. Tube radio technology “unlike modern day solid state radios” can have interference/noise in the sound quality, caused by kitchen appliances, computer monitors, flat screen TV’S, florescent lights, washing machines, high power wires/lines above your home, etc… So where you position/place this radio in your home can make a huge difference & the direction/position it is set in. A lot of tube radios are directional meaning you “may” have to turn the radio one way or the other to receive the best reception. Tube radios usually take 30 to 45 seconds after they have been turned/powered ON before they start playing as the tubes have to warm up. The size of this fabulous & wonderful gem is 15-1/4″ long 12″ wide & 8-1/2 high. I package very well for a safe arrival. If you have any questions, please ask & I will promptly answer & as best as I can. Please ask questions before the end of the sale & not after. Thanks for looking I greatly appreciate it. The item “GORGEOUS VINTAGE 1940′S CROSLEY TUBE WOOD AM SW PHONOGRAPH RADIO RESTORED WORKS” is in sale since Thursday, July 30, 2015. We offer Quality Antique Radios. To view our other antique radio auctions, as well as antique radio grill cloth. To add us to your favorites. You’ll be hard pressed to find a nicer example of this all time Crosley classic. An absolutely stunning 1935 Crosley model 515 mini tombstone radio featuring a beautiful American walnut cabinet, bright backlit dial, waterfall top, pillared sides, and outstanding performance. The mini tombstone cabinet is a real stunner. This is the rare early version of their model 515 cabinet, and in my opinion, much nicer than the later version. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set with eye catching pillared sides, and a stylish waterfall top. A large Art Deco grill not only looks great but allows for optimal sound from the speaker. Dark walnut trim adds the perfect contrast to finish the cabinet off with the utmost elegance and style. This seldom seen beauty is sure to be the main attraction of any room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The bright backlit dial is quite the attention getter. It features an ivory background with black numbers and letters. The center art work is an arching radio tower between two world globes. The moon and stars are to the left of the tower, the sun to the right, and the arching Crosley logo on top. All numbers, letters, and graphics are legible and show very little signs of wear. All four knobs are perfect and control the following: high/low tone, on/off & volume, tuning, and band switch. The 1930′s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a. Gold color with a herringbone design. All tubes in the 5 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. I’m able to receive many stations, near and far, with great tone and plenty of volume. I’m also able to receive quite a few stations on the small shortwave scale, especially at night. The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office. 10 1/2″W x 12 1/4″H x 7 1/2D. I sell quality antique radios and describe them accurately, as can be confirmed with my outstanding feedback. My radios are expertly packed using oversized boxes, many layers of bubble wrap, and several inches of packing peanuts surrounding each side of the radio so you can be assured they arrive safely. If your radio arrives and does not work please let us know. We will gladly walk you through the process of troubleshooting to get it started. The tubes, capacitors, resistors, and filters. However, if at any time these parts would happen to fail, we will assist in repairing or replacing the defective part at minimal cost. Finally, in very rare instances, if there is. If that is the case with your country, you assume the risk of any damage or undelivered package. Antique tube radio reception can differ greatly depending on location, length of antenna, and amount of interference in different areas. Playing capability is accurately described based on my location, surroundings, and hooked up to a 12′ copper line antenna. The antenna will be included with the sale but I cannot guarantee reception quality in your area. It may differ (better or worse) depending on your location, surroundings, and interference. We offer Quality Antique Radios. To view our other antique radio auctions, as well as antique radio grill cloth. To add us to your favorites. Here we have the highly sought after 1937 Crosley’Fiver’ model 517 mirror dial table radio. The American walnut cabinet is simply gorgeous. Beautiful wood grain flows throughout the entire set. Stylish rounded sides, coupled with an attractive grill, makes for a classic Art Deco look. Everything comes together magnificently with the amazing lighted mirror dial. It is quite the sight to behold with the reflections it casts while either in a bright room or dark room when the dial lamp is illuminated. Dark walnut tones add depth and elegance to finish the cabinet off with style. This highly desirable radio is sure to be the main attraction in any room of the home or office you choose to display it in. The lighted mirror dial is simply amazing. One of the most attractive dials any radio has to offer (which is why Crosley patented it). This is a very early run of this model as can be seen by the’dial patent applied for’ inscribed at the top of the dial. Later models had dial patent pending or dial patent with the #. The dial is designed with a gold mirror back, coupled with a protruding glass front, which displays all the station frequencies and Crosley’Fiver’ emblem in reverse paint. This causes a magnificent 3D like effect with spectacular reflections. Very unique from any other radio dials. Whether the reflections are cast by natural light during the day, or by the bright dial lamp in a dark room, it is quite the sight! And take note to the WLW near the bottom left (70) on the dial. This was Crosley’s original station call letters! The dial glass and mirror have been polished and are in great shape showing virtually no signs of wear. All three knobs are perfect and work as follows; on/off & volume, tuning, and band switch. The 1930′s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a whiskey. Gold color with an Art Deco geometric design. I will also include an additional copper line antenna for even stronger reception. The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. This model is not found restored very often – it was one of the last models Crosley made before assembly plants moved to Wartime production. This radio’s tubes were checked and all tested strong, capacitors and resistors were tested and replaced where bad or weak. The finish was restored and it looks amazing! Picture this beauty sitting on your table in your living room or den. Before looking at the video – please click. The storied Crosley radios are coveted for their many distinct designs but also for their story – during the 1920s, Crosley founder, Powel Crosley, JR. Was asked by his young son for a radio, which was the latest and greatest thing. Of Radio, and he and his son built their own radio. He recognized the appeal of radio almost immediately, and soon he was manufacturing radio components. The slogan “You’re There With A Crosley” was used in all Crosley advertising.
