Vintage Radio Craftsmen RC-2 Tube Amplifier

The RC-2 was designed by Ed Miller, who later was the founder of Sherwood, and Sid Smith, who later became the chief engineer at Marantz, in 1948. It was their first stand- alone Hi-Fi amplifier. They later produced the C400 and C500. The cosmetic condition of this listing is near new. The power transformer has been replaced by one of Hammonds best. All defective parts have been replaced and the amp is plug-and-play. This is the later version of the RC-2 made in 1950. I discovered this beauty while renovating some custom cabinetry in my late relative’s downtown Chicago apartment. He had impeccable taste and finding this was very much in keeping with my boyhood impressions of his high style. The Craftsmen 500 was produced in 1951 in Chicago, and this unit has a relatively low serial number (3638). I have not tested this unit but I believe all appears to be in good working order, with the exception of one of the two larger tubes (as seen in pictures). Please let me know if you have any questions whatsoever. This item ships fully-insured with tracking. I also have an Altec Lansing Corporation N-1000-B Network frequency divider box and two Altec Lansing matching speakers, that I will be listing shortly. Potential package deal available, please reach out if you’re interested. Ultra-fidelity is a new concept in audio amplifier performance previously found only in the research laboratory. With an ultra-fidelity amplifier, harmonic and other types of distortion either approach the point of vanishing or are truly negligible over the entire range from 20 to 20,000 cps. In order to maintain excellence throughout this range, the complete frequency range of an ultra-fidelity amplifier must be considerably wider than the audio range. The Craftsmen 500 amplifier now brings ultra-fidelity from the research laboratory to the home. Power output: 15W into 8 (mono). Frequency response: 5Hz to 100kHz. Total harmonic distortion: 0.1%. Input sensitivity: 1.5V. Signal to noise ratio: 90dB. Speaker load impedance: 8 to 16. Valve complement: 2 x 6SN7GTA, 2 x KT66, 5V4G. Dimensions: 8 x 13.5 x 7.5 inches.
