Abbotwares, 1770 Workman St. Los Angeles, in the late 1940′s produced all kinds of cool and unique metal wares, some of which were mounted on tube radios or clocks. As a Billboard ad from November 1947 shows pict. 21, google “abbotwares horses billboard” for more ads, this was a modular system with a large selection of horse sizes and attachments, metal and metal finish choices. The radios had the same 5 tube chassis and had the model number Z-477 , with a tube line-up of 12BE6, 12BA6, 12AT6, 50B5 AND 35W4. This radio is in excellent overall vintage condition. Its original anodized finish is in good condition showing only a little wear with some scratches mainly underneath the saddle, that normally hides it. The two swirled brown plastic knobs are original to this radio and in great condition. Comes with the original red velvet blanket for the removable saddle. Missing the small copper wire reigns. The radio is set-up with a 3ft wire type antenna and a newer vintage power cord in good condition. The radio’s chassis is in fantastic condition and was thoroughly cleaned, lubricated and serviced with new electrolytics and was also recapped. The radio works well with some static, she is very directionally sensitive and easily picks up background noise/static from florescent lights, house hold electronics, power lines, transformers and other power related appliances. So positioning and antenna placement are vital. 14” tall, 11 1/2” wide and 5” deep. This is a highly collectable radio and a must have for the serious radio collector.
