Made the year Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese, this charming radio has a lot of features in a small size. The Bakelite marbled walnut/burgundy cabinet is in excellent condition and shines like it was new. With working push button tuning and a tortoiseshell handle, it has a unique look about it that must have been the rage in its day. And of course a. S with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was completely disassembled and cleaned, then buffed to a wondrously smooth, shiny and lustrous finish. The tortoiseshell handle was polished. The dial face graphics are crisp and clear and beautifully lighted by two bulbs. The original dial cover was polished and is in excellent condition. The “Z” knobs were polished. The loop antenna has a connection for improved reception, especially for the short wave. The power cord was replaced, using the original polished plug. The photos say the rest about how pristine this radio is and how well it displays. Though it has a handle, it is a heavier radio for its size – as such I would not recommend carrying it by the handle, just to be safe! Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. This prewar radio must have broadcast much of what is now history over the past 79 years. Since being meticulously restored it will once again provide many more years of enjoyment if well cared for. It is a must for the collector and would make a wonderful gift. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. This is a stunning, rare and beautiful radio that also has fantastic sound. Made in 1937, the cabinet has wonderfully rich and warm walnut inlays that balance perfectly with the large dial face and green “magic” tuning eye. With seven tubes, it has excellent sensitivity, selectivity and reception. It also has tone control for your listening preference. The tube sound is unmistakably rich and pleasant on this radio. With all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished and rejuvenated and the top and bottom trim were redone with dark walnut toners. The entire cabinet was then given eight coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. There is some veneer edge missing from the top/rear as can be seen in the photos. There is a missing lower grill piece that was irreparably damaged and completely removed and now it looks like just like it was made that way. None of those detract from the overall wonderful appearance of the radio and the photos speak for themselves. The dial face is in excellent condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted by two bulbs and there is an indicator that shows which band is selected. And of course the green magic eye really sets it off. The original glass dial cover and Bakelite escutcheon have been polished and are in very good condition. The bezel is in excellent original condition. He original knobs perfectly match the trim toners and have been polished. The grill cloth is the original. It has a small amount of wear and a few marks, but I thought it important to keep, as it helps to maintain the originality of the radio. (The new owner can of course have a new grill cloth installed if desired) The power cord was replaced, using the original polished plug. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. The original speaker is in excellent condition and sounds great. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the nine foot external antenna (provided). This is a rare radio with a very appealing presence and it. Certainly demands a place of distinction and pride. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories this wonderful radio has broadcast. Now 83 years old and newly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of enjoyment if well cared for. It is a larger radio and fairly heavy. It will require special attention for packing to ensure it arrives safely. More than just a rectangle box, the grill, various angles, protrusions and lines bespeak of a more upscale radio than many of the more ordinary Bakelite radios of the time. The cabinet is in excellent condition, certainly belying its age. It sounds great too. With excellent selectivity, sensitivity and reception using the internal loop antenna. There is also an external antenna lead if needed for improved reception in your location. With six tubes and a five inch speaker, the rich and mellow tube sound is superb. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet is a pleasing marbled dark walnut with burgundy swirls. It was completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. It was then polished and buffed to a gleaming mirror-like finish. It has no damage at 79 years old. The dial face graphics are very crisp and clear and display nicely with the illumination from the pilot light. The gold tone Emerson logo and horizontal lines (front top) were redone to match the original. The original dial cover was polished to a crystal clear condition. The original knobs were polished. The power cord was replaced. Known as “The Big Six”, I would think this radio broadcast the bombing of Pearl Harbor when it was still new. Just imagine all of the news, stories and music it played since then! Now that it is completely restored, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable service if well cared for. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. The top and bottom trim were redone with brown mahogany toners. The entire cabinet was then given seven coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. There is a sliver of veneer missing from the right rear side that does not detract from the overall appearance. The dial face is in excellent condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted. The original dial cover has been polished and is in excellent condition. The escutcheon has been repainted the original color. It has a tiny crack on the left side. That is hard to see. The original knobs were polished. One knob (2nd from left) has a small area missing. Vintage Arvin 664 Bakelite Tube Radio (1946) COMPLETELY RESTORED

Built the year after WWII ended, this super clean and shiny Bakelite radio looks like new. Unusual in design, it has a bottom mount chassis, allowing for a grill on the back as part of the cabinet. That grill uses the same original grill cloth as the speaker grill and is very appealing. The handle is unique too, with a Bakelite insert into a metal frame that has the original ivory paint. The cabinet is in excellent condition, certainly belying its age. It sounds great too. With excellent selectivity, sensitivity and reception. With six tubes, a five inch speaker and tone control for your listening preference, the rich and mellow tube sound is superb. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet is a pleasing marbled dark brown with light brown swirls. It was completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. It was then polished and buffed to a gleaming mirror-like finish. It has no damage at almost 74 years old, which is remarkable. The dial face graphics are very crisp and clear and display nicely with the illumination from the pilot light. The original dial cover was polished to a crystal clear condition. The original knobs were polished. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. As a note of interest, there are fingerprints on the metal bottom; most likely left there by whomever affixed the label, having adhesive or ink on their fingers back in 1946. I elected to leave it as is! This completely restored radio is now ready to be reliably enjoyed for many more years if well cared for. As you can tell from the photos, it displays very well, and has an interesting look from the back side as well as the front and sides. It will be an asset for the the collector or those with discerning taste. Dimensions: 12.5×7.5×7.
