This robust and impressive table radio must have been in the works just as the USA was entering WWII. The intricate wood veneers, burl wood inlays, and stepped columns make for a very beautiful and interesting cabinet. Called the “Pan American”, it is in almost perfect condition. With seven tubes, it has excellent sensitivity, selectivity and reception. With a six inch speaker, the warm and mellow tube is very pleasing. The SW (short wave) bands work best using a longer external antenna 12 ft. The push buttons are all functional and can be set to your local stations. It has bass/treble tone control for your listening preference. And of course a. S with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished, rejuvenated and balanced. The bottom and top trim were redone with dark walnut toner. The entire cabinet was then given eight coats of clear lacquer with excellent results and the photos speak for themselves. A new Firestone decal was installed. The dial face/cover is in excellent condition with crisp and clear graphics that are softy lighted by two bulbs. He knobs and push buttons are original and have been polished. The grill clothe is original and is in very good condition. The back cover is in excellent condition. The power cord was replaced, using the original plug. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The dial cord was replaced. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna and the SW external antenna. This 78 year old has a bold and majestic presence and should be displayed in a prominent location. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories this wonderful radio has broadcast. It would be a wonderful as a gift or as an addition to the collection. Ewly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. Vintage Belmont/Freshman AM Tube Radio 401 (1935) COMPLETELY RESTORED

This Belmont manufactured radio is named the “Freshman Masterpiece” as seen on the brass plaque, and is indeed a rare find. The two toned mahogany veneers really make the radio a standout and it is in very good to excellent condition, especially considering its age. A skyscraper design of the tombstone radios of the era, it is a four tube “TRF” chassis, and not the more “modern” superheterodyne. It sounds great too, with good sensitivity and selectivity with the speaker in excellent condition. In spite of only four tubes, it has good reception using an external 10 ft. Of course as with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. This radio rarely comes up for sale, especially in this complete of restoration and condition. The cabinet was completely disassembled and cleaned. It was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was nourished and rejuvenated, and then balanced with toners. The bottom trim was redone with dark walnut toner. The entire cabinet then received eight coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. There is surprisingly only one small ding as can barely be seen on the upper front. The sides and top are in excellent condition. The dial face is in very good condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted. The polished dial cover is original and crystal clear. The bezel is in excellent condition. The original knobs have been polished and are in excellent condition. The grill cloth was replaced with an almost exact replica of the original and looks wonderful. The power cord has been replaced with a cloth covered wire that is modern, yet looks like the original. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. The photos speak for themselves as to how attractive this radio displays. The original six inch speaker is in excellent condition and sounds great. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the 10 foot external antenna (provided). This charming vintage radio would be very enjoyable in a darkened room listening to the music or a story of yesteryear or as background while enjoying a good book. It is a must for the collector and would make an unusual and interesting gift. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories this little gem has broadcast! Now 85 years old and newly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. This “boomerang” radio is a charming example of the advanced styling by Zenith, even at the start of the USA entering WWII. With the classic black dial face that is softly lit and inviting, it is a very interesting and beautiful design with Art Deco hints. The cabinet is in overall very good condition, with a two small areas of chipped veneer that can be seen in the photos that come with being 78 years old. With six tubes, it has very good sensitivity, selectivity and reception. Using the internal loop antenna. There is terminal for attaching an external wire antenna for improved reception if needed for your area. This beautiful mantle radio is a real treat for the eyes! With the cabinet made of solid wood, the design, craftsmanship and construction quality are superb. It has inlays of oak and walnut and is in excellent condition, especially given its age. My research has found that Air-Castle radios were made by a number of companies, and this one has a Clarion/TCA (Transformer Corporation of America) chassis. It was a “curtain burner” radio that had a resistor built into the power cord and it got quite warm, hence the name. That has been modernized to use a capacitor in place of the resistor wire and a new, cloth covered power cord that looks like the original, but has safe, modern wire inside. There is nary a flaw in the cabinet and the photos tell the rest of the story about how how well the restoration turned out. It not only looks charming, it sounds good too. With five tubes, it has good sensitivity, selectivity and reception. Using the provided external antenna wire. And of course a. S with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished, rejuvenated and balanced. The bottom trim was redone with dark walnut toner. The entire cabinet was then given seven coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. The brass escutcheons retain some of the original patina and are in excellent condition. He knobs are original and have been polished. One knob has a small chip. The grill cloth has been replaced with a beautiful design that is a close representative of the original. The power cord was replaced with a cloth covered one, using the original plug. The bottom felt pads are original and in good condition. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. The curtain burner power cord was replaced with a modern capacitor and new wiring. Other wiring and components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the 12 foot external antenna (provided). This is a very rare radio with a stunningly pleasant presence and it. Demands a place of distinction. It is a must for the collector or those with discerning taste. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories this wonderful radio has broadcast. 4 years old and newly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. This smaller table radio is another beautifully designed model by the famed Ingraham company. The craftsmanship, creativity and attention to detail make this much more than a plain rectangular radio. It is sometimes incorrectly referred to as a model 179, as that is the is the number printed on the loop antenna. The beautiful wood grains are a main feature of this Ingraham designed Firestone Air Chief radio. A smaller radio, it is called “The Melody”. In addition to the fabulous veneers, it has a horizontal inlay along the lower part that further adds to its allure. The smooth curves give it a warm and inviting look. It does have a few flaws as can be seen in the photos, and is missing three of the vertical grill bars. Those only minimally detract from the overall charm and presence of this stunning radio. The gold tone and ivory dial face mates wonderfully with the cabinet. It sounds great too, with the rich and mellow tube sound through a five inch speaker. With five tubes, it has very good sensitivity, selectivity and reception using the internal loop antenna. There is a wire to allow the attachment of a longer wire antenna if needed for your location. Of course, as with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished and rejuvenated. The entire cabinet was then given seven coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. The Firestone decal was replaced. The dial face is in excellent condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted. The dial cover is a new replacement. The original knobs were polished. The grill cloth was replaced, as was the power cord. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. The photos tell the rest of the story about the very good overall condition of the cabinet and how well the restoration turned out. The original speaker is in excellent condition and sounds great. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. This highly collectible and rare radio demands a place of distinction and will compliment any decor. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories it has broadcast over the past 81 years! Now newly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. The beginning of the 1950′s brought about a number of changes, and this radio represents the the move from Bakelite to “modern” plastic and providing FM back when there weren’t too many FM stations broadcasting. This model has smooth and clean lines and the beginnings of the “MCM look”. The dark walnut cabinet has just the slightest hint of burgundy marbling and is in excellent condition with no cracks or other damage. It sounds great too, with eight tubes and an internal loop antenna. It also has a bass/treble control for your listening preference. And of course a. S with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. While you may find others of this model, it is doubtful you will find one in the extraordinary restored condition of this one. The cabinet was completely disassembled and cleaned, then buffed to a wondrously smooth, shiny and lustrous finish. The dial face graphics are crisp, clear and easily seen. The power indicator shines red using a neon bulb. The original knobs were polished and the centers repainted. The original back cover is in excellent condition. The trouble prone selenium rectifier was replaced with a modern diode. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. There is an external antenna connection on the back cover if needed for improved FM reception. At 69 years old, this Medicare age radio is once again working and looking like new. It is to be displayed proudly and it will draw well deserved attention with its charm. It will provide many more years of safe and reliable enjoyment if well cared for. Very rare indeed, there are very few of this radio available today. I would think that was because of WWII, production was stopped. With a gorgeous Ingraham cabinet in excellent condition (see photo of bottom label), this upscale tri-band radio has some wonderful features. Starting with the cabinet, it has multiple inlays of various wood veneers and solids. The stepped frontispiece with the goldtone bands displays wonderful wood grains. And of course the green “magic eye” tuning indicator really makes the dial face stand out. It has a stately, yet warm and inviting look about it. It sounds great too, with the rich and mellow tube sound through a 6 1/2 speaker. It also has tone control for your listening preference. The entire cabinet was then given seven coats of clear lacquer with excellent results. Two of the knobs have minor warping. The power cord was replaced. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture.
