This wonderful vintage Catalin tube radio was manufactured by Garod in 1945 and is called the Commander. It measures 11 1/4″ long by 6 3/4″ deep and 7 1/2 high overall. This sleek Art Deco radio is done in marbled red and butterscotch yellow combination with butterscotch knobs. It does have some minor dust between the grill and as you can see in the pictures some bending to the cardboard backing. I will try to add a better photo of the right side of the radio shortly. This Catalin (sometimes mistaken for Bakelite) radio is about 11 ¼ long, 6 ¾ deep and 7 ¼ high overall. It was manufactured by the Garod Radio Corporation, Brooklyn NY in 1945. This sleek Art Deco Catalin radio shows the rare Maroon and Butterscotch Yellow combination with a Red and White dial face. It is in good used condition; sturdy with no chips or cracks. There are small marks and mild scuffs, and the surface would benefit from a cleaning. One rubber foot and one back pin are missing. The radio plays but the dial cord is broken and must be replaced to change channels. This is a rare opportunity to own a quality Catalin radio that seldom appears on the market. Here is a Beautiful Vintage 1940 Garod 6AU-1 Commander Butterscotch and Red Catalin Tube Radio Project. It looks like this entire radio cabinet had been spray painted seafoam green at one point and then later stripped back to natural. The back is green and there is overspray inside. Catalin cabinet is fairly clean with no chips, cracks or repairs but it has a large burn on the lower right side as shown. The red grille section has a repaired crack on the upper right. It is missing the dial lens. The speaker is blown and the radio chassis only gets hum. Easy little fixer project. This will make a wonderful addition to anyone’s collection. LOOKS TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION FOR AGE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A SMALL GLUE REPAIR WAS DONE ON THE BOTTOM PART OF THE FRONT RED GRILL, SHOWN IN PICTURES. IT HUMMED LOUD WHEN I FIRST PLUGED IT IN THEN NOTHING. ALL THE TUBES LITE UP.. LOOKS LIKE A NEWER CORD WAS ADDED AT SOME POINT.. 7 1/2 TALL, APPROX. 11 1/2 ACROSS THE BOTTOM, BY APPROX.
