The grill / speaker covering looks like woven cloth and there is one small area of imperfection–A loose thread of bottom center between the n &;amp;amp;amp;amp; I of Zenith and some fading overall. The cabinet has a few minor scratches however it also has some paint or glue residue on top and a few black dots that look like oil dripped on it. As I said the radio works and just need some cleaning up. The wire looks like it has been augmented with a poorly done splice. But it works, so it’s okay for now. THIS CHASIS WILL NEED THE TWO BELTS and most likely some CAPACITORS , AND A NEW POWER CORD. WITH SOME POWER APPLIED , ABOUT 85 VOLTS AC , THERE IS OVER 200 VOLTS DC AT THE SPEAKER JACK AND THE TUBES ALL LIGHT UP. WITH A SPEAKER CONNECTED IT WILL HUM SO IT IS BEST TO KEEP THE LINE VOLTAGE LOWER TILL THE CAPS ARE CHANGED. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FRONT GLASS IS MISSING , THE VOLUME CONTROL WAS CHANGED WITH ONE THAT IS NOT SOLID , AND THE VOLUME DIAL WAS BROKEN AND REPAIRED. ALSO PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SHUTTER DIAL POSITIONS ALL WORK WELL AND LOOK GOOD , THE TUNING WORKS WELL WHEN TURNED BY THE POINTER , THE MOTOR WORKS BOTH DIRECTIONS WHEN TURNING THE FRONT KNOB. This radio was made in early 1934, by the grigsby-grunow corp. This is a four tube superheterodyne, shortwave/broadcast radio. The chassis 440 employs a superheterodyne circuit utilizing four tubes including a rectifier. Tube line-up is 6a7-s (mixer/lo), 6f7-s triode/pentode (if amp/2nd detector), 41 af power. It is ac powered with the power transformer mounted below the chassis. Band selection is accomplished using the small rotary knob at the rear of the chassis. The speaker is model g-26-f. The cabinet measures 8 1/4″ x 5 9/16″ x 11 1/2 and has some damage i tried to photograph. One back bottom area has the most veneer loss with only minimal spots here and there elsewhere. Both fancy screws in place. Brushed aluminum grille and. There are no holes in the mesh behind the grill but there is one area bottom right that is slightly dented. While the fabric cord is fraying a bit, it still seemed safe enough to plug in and i did so. The tubes did light up and there was a humming sound. Didn’t leave it in more than 10 seconds.
