The radio needs a new AC power cord so I was unable to turn it on. He wood cabinet is nice and solid and the finish looks really beautiful. There are some minor imperfections like you might expect on a piece from this era. All of the various dials and switches seem to be turning/functioning as they should be. As you can see from the pictures, the chassis looks clean but the radio has been in storage for many years so I’m sure that it could use a good/thorough cleaning. Philco Baby Grand Cathedral Radio Model 20. This wooden beauty is from 1930. What a very cool radio! Is in good physical condition for the age of the recorder. Please see ALL the pictures! I plugged in the unit and turned it on, the dispIay is backlit and powers on. I saw a few tubes give off a glow and heard the hum and crackle from tuning the radio, but I COULD NOT TUNE IN ANY radio stations when I turned the dial. So basically NO sound. Vintage Silvertone Model 1706 Cathedral Radio that looks great and is a good candidate for electronic restoration. Radio emits a load hum and some static when turned on. The tuning dial moves properly, the grill cloth has no rips or holes, and the cloth power cord is in very good condition, with some fraying at the plug end. The finish on the radio is all original and has simply been cleaned and polished with a professional wood wax. There are a few tiny worm holes on the left side of the radio that do not detract from the overall appearance of the radio. Radio stands 13 1/2″ tall and 13″ wide and 7 1/2 deep. It still has the original finish on the cabinet and the photos tell the rest of the story – graceful, yet stunning in how well preserved it is. The cabinet was cleaned and given two hand rubbed coats of high quality wax to bring out the beauty of the veneers. And, to top it off, it sounds great too, with tone control for your listening preference. With six tubes, the sensitivity and reception is very good. The cabinet has absolutely no damage, though the original finish has some areas with very fine crazing that does not detract from the comeliness of this radio. It has the original knobs and dial, which still has crisp and clean numbers/graphics. The grill cloth is an older replacement that very closely resembles the original. The power cord was replaced with cloth covered modern wire, using the original Bakelite plug. The chassis has been cleaned and restored, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes, condensers and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception using an external short antenna wire (provided). If you want a fine representation of a mid 1930′s cathedral radio that still has its well cared for original finish, this one’s for you. Listening to it as darkness approaches, the soft glow of the dial bring thoughts of all the stories and music this radio has broadcast. Up for offer Vintage 1930s small RCA cathedral tube radio. I could not pull the chassis because the dial knob is stuck I did not what to force it off. The radio works it came from a lot that a radio and TV repairman had in his collection judging from the condition and the way it plays a believe it was restored but the chassis is stuck in the radio I can verify that it is restored. The cabinet is in great condition just a few small chips and a small crack in the veneer on the side. The radio has two globe tubes 42 Cunningham and a 280 Radiotron.
