RARE ANTIQUE VINTAGE 1924 RCA RADIOLA MODEL III GOOD WD-11 & C-11 RADIO TUBES

For your consideration is this extremely clean RCA Radiola Model III. This Radiola III has been carefully cared for in my personal collection for over 40 years. One is a Cunningham C-11 and the other a RCA WD-11. Both filaments show continuity. In my care the radio was not powered up to preserve the fragile filaments. A slight mistake could have easily wipe out both filaments. A short time ago new rubber shocks were installed on the tube socket strip because the original had dried out. The transformer shows continuity on both primary and secondary. It will be your choice to power it up or not. This radio is battery powered requiring 1.5 v d. For the filaments, 4.5 v d. C bias and 90 v d. It is a very basic regenerative circuit. One WD-11 is the detector and the other is the audio amplifier. The Cunningham C-11 has the similar characteristics as RCA’s WD-11. You’ll notice on the rear of the cabinet a label that looks like it was damaged with battery acid. It’s quite possible that the original owner had used wet cells and an accident occurred splashing the label with it’s battery acid. Also a two of antenna terminal brass thumb nuts are missing. The power cloth cable is in good condition and the original metal battery hook-up taps are still on each cable lead. The radio was installed in an all mahogany box, one hole for the power cable to exit, and attached to the box with two nickle plated screws. The face of the radio is black bakelite and has no cracks or chips. The station tuning lever on the radio’s bakelite face had been nickle plated, some of the plating has tarnished, is used to turn the small coil mounted inside the large coil. A combination of adjusting the tuning lever and the placement of the antenna link determines the radio’s reception frequency range. Today the tuning process may seem a little complicated, but back in 1924 you’d do what it would take to hear current news, sports or music in the comfort of your home through a pair of earphones. It was high tech for the day. If you ever wanted to own a RCA Radiola III then don’t pass this one by. You may not find one this nice with two good tubes. The dimensions of the cabinet is approximately 8″ wide, 5″ tall and 7 deep. Dimensions taken with tubes out of socket. Thank you for looking.
