A Stunning 1937 model 37-610 Big Bullet. This is the early version of this famed radio noted by the Macassar Ebony inlays which could not be obtained on future models. The’bullet’ designed cabinet is simply stunning with a gorgeous American walnut finish and nice wood grain flowing throughout the entire set. Beautiful dark walnut tones add depth and elegance. Two Macassar Ebony inlays run across the right front of the cabinet and a large Art Deco grill is positioned to the left. This highly desirable set is sure to be the topic of conversation no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The shadow meter dial is one of Philco’s finest. The dial pointer itself glows a bright orange in accordance to what band/station you are on. The entire dial then moves when tuning stations while the orange lighted pointer stays stationary. Very modern for the time! All numbers and letters representing station frequencies are legible and show little signs of wear. Take note of the words’Music, News, Drama, Comedy, Sports, and Education’ inscribed on the top of the dial! All four bakelite knobs are in excellent condition and work as they should; Tuning – which features an inset fine tuning knob for precision tuning, On/off & tone, band switch, and volume. The 1930′s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a yellow. Gold color with a miniature square design. All tubes in the 5 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. With the included copper line antenna the radio performs very well. The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine.
