VIntage PHILCO Transitone 1949 Boomerang Bakelite Mid Century Modern Phono Radio. Today we are happy to offer for sale a wonderful vintage 1940′s Philco Transitone “Boomerang” phono tabletop radio! Philco (founded in 1892) was a pioneer in battery, radio, and television production. In North America, it is the Philco brand owned by Philips. In other markets, it is the Philco International brand owned by Electrolux. In the early 1920s, Philco made storage batteries, “socket power” battery eliminator units, and battery chargers. This classic and retro Transitone radio, originally introduced in 1939, is the epitome of early Mid Century Modern style and design. The USA-made tabletop photo radio features a classic dark brown bakelike “boomerang” curved body with cream grill front and round tuning knobs. The radio appears to retains all its’ original parts and components, including original power cord. The radio is marked on bottom with Philco paper labe and additionally on the back; this radio is model 49-501 Serial No. The radio presents well and is in good vintage, as-found condition, with wear and patina commensurate with age and use. There is minor surface wear and scuffing. To our limited knowledge it appears all components are intact. This classic Boomerang radio will make a great addition to any antique and vintage radio collection… Fresh to the market!
