Rare, Remler Scotty dog model 40 bookshelf model tube radio 1936. Only five known in existence. Made by the monastery bindery company in Chicago. Original knobs and Grill cloth in excellent condition. Radio is 11 inches across 8 1/2 inches tall and 7 inches wide. The cord has been cut, so don’t know the working condition, but all tubes and chassis pieces are there. There is a hairline crack on the bottom, followed by a tiny piece missing by the screw. Please see last photos. These Bakelite radios are very fragile so many didn’t survive.

This rather rare radio is one of two models from Sentinel that are made to look like a stack of books. It dates from around 1940 or’41, the Riders Perpetual Troubleshooter page for this model is dated 1940. It is in very good condition for this type of radio, the cloth and fake leather covering have no tears or holes, not even where it flexes for the hinge. There are some areas where the covering has begun to separate from the case, particularly inside the “lid”, but this could be glued down again. Most examples of this radio I have seen have the covering in shreds. This radio has had some service, the main filter condensers have been replaced along with the power cord. I plugged it in for a test, got strong clear reception all across the band. A fantastic find for the novelty radio collector! I will not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as “gifts” – US and International government regulations prohibit such behavior.
