Manufactured in Japan during the 1960s, this rare low-profile model features a highly stylized cream front grille offset by a striking, highly sought-after rare blue plastic outer cabinet structure. Unlike standard 5-tube models from this era, this premium receiver boasts an advanced 7-tube plus 2-diode circuit design built specifically for high-fidelity dual-band audio performance. The visual layout retains its iconic horizontal gold accent bars, distinct “NEC Galaxie” lower badge branding, original factory-stamped hardboard backing, and an additional factory schematic on the base panel, making it an exceptional centerpiece display or daily listener for serious vintage electronics collectors. Functionality: Fully tested and working great! The tuning dial adjusts smoothly across frequencies. Cabinet Structure: The rare blue plastic top, sides, and bottom base rim are physically solid with zero structural cracks, fractures, chips, or deep gouges. It is missing 1 of the molded bottom feet out of the four. Front Control Panel: The dual cream plastic grille assemblies are fully intact across both sides with zero broken or missing fins. The clear plastic tuner display shield is structurally sound with 1 small sliver crack on the top right of the plastic casing in the corner. All four original ribbed control knobs are present and securely attached. Cosmetics: The housing shows light cosmetic scuffing, cleaning swirls, and minor age-appropriate finish variations. Faint surface oxidation/pitting is present on the metallic trim parts and knob centers. Rear & Base Markings: The original fiberboard rear cover is fully intact with crisp lettering and features the factory tube layout map. The original gold schematic diagram on the underside remains firmly attached and legible. Power Cord: Features the factory safety interlock plug mechanism connected firmly to the rear chassis.
The tubes take a few seconds to warm up, but it Works well. The clock works and keeps time. These are tough to find with the cases in good condition, as they were prone to cracking. This one was kept tucked away on a shelf in a bedroom closet for the last 50 years, and its condition reflects that. Feel free to ask questions or for more pictures.
The Vintage Sylvania 6T14 Tube Radio is a rare find from the mid-century era, featuring a classic blue design that is characteristic of the Mid-Century Modern aesthetic. Perfect for those who appreciate the nostalgia and craftsmanship of byegone eras in radio technology. It has a wonderful warm tube sound and is ready to enjoy or display. The cabinet is in excellent overall vintage condition with a beautiful cream and light blue mid-century design. The front, top, sides, knobs, and overall appearance are exceptionally well preserved. There is one cosmetic stain on the back panel (shown in the photos). It does not affect performance or operation in any way and is only visible from the rear.
This does currently work if you check the video. It has some marks and cosmetic wear as well as signs of it’s age. The cable on the back has some glue puit on by someone at some point so be careful of the cable. Top does have some light warping. This radio does take a minute to warm up when turned on.
