Make sure to check out all of my auctions after you’ve looked at this one. I’m listing an eclectic assortment of museum quality antiques and collectibles this week, and I suspect that there will be something to interest just about everybody. Here’s a 1930′s Effanbee Charlie McCarthy doll in the rare 1st edition “Eddie Bergen” box. Condition of the doll is excellent to near mint throughout, as you can see in the pictures. The spring that closes the puppet’s jaw needs to be replaced (or possibly just refitted — I haven’t opened the doll up to see), but the cosmetics of the doll are exceptionally nice. Clean clothing, with no tears or insect damage. Beautiful skin tone, with no tar/nicotine residue. A perfectly formed top hat. You get the picture. Charlie’s head is pristine, as you can see in the photograph, and his monocle is undamaged. The box lid has three detached side flaps (one is in the box; the other two are long gone), and an entrepreneurial prior owner (quite possibly the original owner) used back side of the lid to promote a Saturday morning refreshment business on his/her front lawn. Otherwise the box is complete and in presentable condition, and the label is clean and fully intact as you can see. The doll comes with the stand pictured in the photographs. If you’re looking for a nice collectible to place beside the doll, check out my other listings this week — specifically, a near mint 1938 Majestic Charlie McCarthy radio. The two have been shelf-mates for decades, and it would be nice if they could stay together a bit longer. That’s about it. Rest assured it will arrive at your home in the same fine condition in which it leaves mine.
