This rare 1937 “Phantom Belle” beauty is a wonderful treat for the eyes and ears. Featuring birch veneers and. Corner ribbed columns and sides, it seldom comes up for sale. The unique open design allows for the top and front to display the grill and grill cloth for a rakish style. It also has a hi/low sound switch for your listening preference. It has a replacement permanent magnet speaker the same size as the original. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost detail. The cabinet retains the original stain, which was rejuvenated to nourish and enrich the wood. The bottom and columns were redone with dark mahogany toners for a very appealing and balanced appearance. The entire cabinet was then given six coats of quality clear gloss lacquer. Finally, it was finished off with a beeswax/orange oil polish. There are some repairs to the grill ribs as may be seen in the photos. They very minimally detract from the beauty of this radio. The dial face/cover has crisp and clear graphics that are nicely back lit. The wooden knobs are original and have also been refinished and lacquered. The grill cloth and power cord have been replaced. The plug is an original and polished. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the external antenna. Ow that it has been completely restored, t. His 82 year old radio now has many more years to provide enjoyment. It is a must for collectors and will enhance any decor where it is displayed. While very eye catching, its relatively small size allows it to fit just about anywhere. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. And, with seven tubes and a six inch speaker, it sounds great too, with tone control for your listening preference and a bright green “Magic Eye” tuning indicator. Add to that the unique roll tuning dial and adjustable preset tuning buttons, and you have a very high end radio for the times that still has charm and distinction. A highly collectible radio, it will enhance any location in your home or office. The cabinet was disassembled, cleaned, rejuvenated and given two coats of quality beeswax/orange oil polish to nurture and bring out the beauty of the woods. The knobs, dial face and buttons are original. The dial is nicely back. Lit by two pilot bulbs. The grill cloth has been replaced, as was the power cord, using the original plug. The escutcheon has some minor warping, which is very common among radios of this era, and has a small piece missing from the upper left side. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. Out-of-tolerance resistors have been replaced. A new polarized AC line cord has been installed. The volume control has been cleaned and has no scratchy noises. The chassis has been cleaned and re-aligned for optimal performance. Tuning shaft and dial point function properly. The radio has its original back with built-in loop antenna, original knobs, and dial face. A new speaker was installed. The radio receives stations very well and the audio output is loud and clear.
