This is a wooden cabinet that has been painted over tight burlap. When I bought it, the paint job was horrible. I had a professional go over it along with the grill, which is a nice red. The knobs are plastic, not catalin. The dial glass is a replacement as the original wars cracked. The chassis has been gone through by Chuck Dachis, The Hallicrafter Collector, and a close personal friend. He also put a new, safe cord on it. Good luck and thanks for looking. Add to that the gorgeous original finish cabinet with burled wood and other inlays and you have a special treat for the eyes and ears. With seven tubes, it has great reception and sensitivity. The radio was totally disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. The cabinet was rejuvenated and nourished to bring the beauty back, then further enhanced with three coats of a hand applied blend of waxes. As the photos depict, the result is remarkably warm and attractive with brilliant design balance. The dial graphics are crisp and clear and nicely lit. The grill cloth, knobs and push buttons are original and in excellent condition. The original label inside the cabinet is intact and in very good condition. The magic eye and electric tuner indicator shine brightly, and are very noticeable in a dimly lit room. The power cord has been replaced. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using a six foot external wire antenna. All of the push buttons function well, and are currently set to my local stations. This radio had been well kept as evidenced by the original finish. Now that the electronics have been restored with modern parts, with reasonable care this 81 year old should easily last another eight decades. This radio is somewhat heavy at 24.5 lbs. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. Vintage Tube Radio Zenith 6D 538 The Toaster (1941) RESTORED & BEAUTIFUL

This is a rarer model of the very popular “toaster” radios made by Zenith and one of their few to have a renowned Ingraham cabinet. It is solid walnut and has the original finish, which is almost flawless. Unique in its design to vent heat through slats in the cabinet give it the moniker it has. The cabinet was cleaned, rejuvenated, then given 2 hand rubbed coats of quality wax to nourish it and bring out the allure of the walnut. The black dial face displays crisp graphics and has the polished Z pointer. The dial cover and grill cloth are original and in very good condition. The knobs and power cord are replacements, using the original Bakelite plug. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. This stately old radio was made in 1941, just before the US entered WWII and Zenith began making utilitarian radios for the war effort. Now since being restored, it can again grace a home for at least another 77 years. It still has the original finish on the cabinet and the photos tell the rest of the story – graceful, yet stunning in how well preserved it is. The cabinet was cleaned and given two hand rubbed coats of high quality wax to bring out the beauty of the veneers. And, to top it off, it sounds great too, with tone control for your listening preference. With six tubes, the sensitivity and reception is very good. The cabinet has absolutely no damage, though the original finish has some areas with very fine crazing that does not detract from the comeliness of this radio. It has the original knobs and dial, which still has crisp and clean numbers/graphics. The grill cloth is an older replacement that very closely resembles the original. The power cord was replaced with cloth covered modern wire, using the original Bakelite plug. The chassis has been cleaned and restored, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes, condensers and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception using an external short antenna wire (provided). If you want a fine representation of a mid 1930′s cathedral radio that still has its well cared for original finish, this one’s for you. Listening to it as darkness approaches, the soft glow of the dial bring thoughts of all the stories and music this radio has broadcast. Certainly as an original piece it will receive compliments for its gracious looks as well as the quality sound. Dimensions: 16.5x13x9.5. The cabinet is very unique with fluted side panels and art deco style front corner columns. The wood and veneers are in excellent condition and it has a beautiful burled wood top. With a large speaker and tone control, the warm, rich sounds are a real delight. Also having push buttons that are easily adjusted for your local stations, this just-post WWII radio was cutting edge technology for its day. The cabinet retains the original stain, which was cleaned and rejuvenated. The columns and trim were redone with brown mahogany toners. The entire cabinet was then given six coats of clear lacquer and the results are just stunning. The slide rule dial face has crisp, clean graphics and is nicely back lit using two bulbs. The grill cloth is original and was cleaned. One of the knobs is slightly different than the other three, which are originals. The chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. There is an external antenna lead for short wave. This beautiful radio is a real head turner and then hearing it will really make you realize what a great combination of sight and sound it is. This 72 year old radio, since restored has at least that many more years of life ahead of it. Your children will someday pass it along to your grandchildren and even great grandchildren. Very beautiful example of the classic catalin radio. This is a vintage 40′s Addison 2 “Waterfall” in burgundy with butterscotch trim made by Addison Industries Limited in Toronto, Canada. This unique Art Deco styling features the famous “waterfall” speaker grill with wrap around trim in butterscotch. The contrast of the butterscotch and burgundy body and dials makes for an eye appealing streamlined design. The radio hums and crackles when plugged in. Will double box with plenty of bubble wrap. This is really nice, and an all original, AK breadboard that I have owned for years. The original cord is frayed in a couple spots but that is the only distraction from an otherwise excellent original, un-restored example. This radio has been with my collection in a climate controlled, smoke free environment. It is difficult to believe this radio is nearly 100 years old! Remarkably, the original factory tags are still on the bottom! Bakelite has no cracks or chips, coils are great, wooden breadboard is mint, and the radio comes with a set of good working 01A tubes. However, everything I can see looks great and original. I think that with the correct power supply and with proper attention, this set will work. It is difficult to find this model breadboard in this condition that hasn’t been restored by polishing, repainting, refinishing, etc. If youre looking for a great original AK Breadboard, this is for you.
