The beautiful eye catching design allows the dial to be easily viewed. With five tubes and tone control for your listening preference, it has excellent reception on all three bands using an external antenna wire lead. The cabinet is dark chocolate with black swirls and is in excellent condition with no damage whatsoever. The cabinet was disassembled and cleaned, then polished to a super smooth and shiny luster. The glass dial face has crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted. The polished knobs and the grill cloth are original. The power cord has been replaced, using the original plug. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the external antenna wire lead. At 80 years old but newly restored, this beautiful piece of history will last another 80 years if well cared for. It will be a great addition for the collector, or as an accent or even a focal point of your decor. Dimensions: 13×9.5×8.5. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. This stunning Silvertone radio has every bit of the style and panache as the famed Ingraham cabinets if not more! Note the beautiful veneers and inlays contrasting, yet accenting one another. Along with the sensuous curved front. Then add in the soft green glow of the magic tuning eye, and t. He result is delightful and very eye catching. It sounds great too, powered by six tubes and using a six foot antenna lead. The radio is also equipped with hi/low tone control for your listening preference. The push buttons all function as designed and you can set them to your local stations. The cabinet retains the original stain, which was rejuvenated to return it to the original appearance. The bottom and top trim were redone with dark walnut toners. The entire cabinet was given six coats of clear lacquer, then hand waxed to further bring out the beauty of the wood grains. The dial face has crisp and clear graphics and is nicely lit from the pilot light. The wooden knobs and bakelite push buttons are original and in excellent condition. The dial cover, grill cloth and power cord are new replacements. There are a few flaws as can be seen in the photos: Upper and lower right front and the upper right side have veneer cracks that have been stabilized. They detract very minimally from the overall appearance of the radio. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the included antenna wire lead. Built before the start of WWII, this 80 year old radio is now totally restored and ready to bring many more years of enjoyment if well maintained. It is highly collectible and will draw attention and admiration wherever it is displayed and used. It would be wonderful to listen to your favorite radio shows in a darkened room while enjoying the rich sound and soft glow of the lights of this classic. Made by RCA, the innovators of the era, this three band radio was cutting edge for the day. Tall and stately, it still has the original dark finish, though the chassis/electronics have been completely restored. This radio looks like the ones from the old movies and has the look and feel of those times. It has very good deep, rich sound with bass/treble control into an 8 inch speaker. With six tubes, it has great reception and selectivity using a 5 foot antenna lead (included). Each is lighted separately – green, orange and red respectively, which is a very nice touch. The tuning knob has two speed controls. The cabinet was dismantled and cleaned. It was given three coats of hand rubbed beeswax/orange oil polish to nourish and bring out the beauty of the woods. The dial face graphics are in excellent condition with crisp graphics and very well lit by two bulbs independent of the three for the channel indicator lights. The dial cover and escutcheon are original, as are the grill cloth and knobs. The power cord is new. It does have a few stress cracks and distressed areas on the top. I decided to leave them as reminders of its 82 years, as attempts to repair them would detract from the originality of the otherwise very good condition of the cabinet. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using 5 foot wire lead antenna. Now it is restored and can be enjoyed for many years to come if well cared for. The end of the Great Depression heralded new and bold radio designs, and this one sure fits the bill. It has beautiful inlaid veneers for a rich, warm look. It has been restored inside and out for many more years of enjoyment. And finally, it has an “RCA” input to play modern devices. That input was originally touted for a phonograph or the very new and rare modern device – television! Note the label for it on the back of the chassis. The cabinet retains the original stain, which was rejuvenated, nourished and toners added to replicate the original appearance. The trim was redone with dark walnut toners. The entire cabinet was then given six coats of clear lacquer, and finally waxed to further bring out the wonderful wood finishes. The dial graphics are crisp and clear, being well back-lit from the pilot light. The green magic eye shows brightly from behind as well. The knobs and glass dial cover are original, with one knob slightly different than the others. The speaker grill cloth and power cord are new, using the original plug. Overall, the cabinet is in excellent condition. There is one small blemish at the bottom right as can be seen in the photos. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using a five foot wire lead antenna (included). At 80 years old, this radio still looks fantastic and sounds really nice too. And the magic eye in the background makes it subtle and inviting, creating a warm. Add to that the gorgeous original finish cabinet with burled wood and other inlays and you have a special treat for the eyes and ears. With seven tubes, it has great reception and sensitivity. The radio was totally disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. The cabinet was rejuvenated and nourished to bring the beauty back, then further enhanced with three coats of a hand applied blend of waxes. As the photos depict, the result is remarkably warm and attractive with brilliant design balance. The dial graphics are crisp and clear and nicely lit. The grill cloth, knobs and push buttons are original and in excellent condition. The original label inside the cabinet is intact and in very good condition. The magic eye and electric tuner indicator shine brightly, and are very noticeable in a dimly lit room. The power cord has been replaced. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using a six foot external wire antenna. All of the push buttons function well, and are currently set to my local stations. This radio had been well kept as evidenced by the original finish. Now that the electronics have been restored with modern parts, with reasonable care this 81 year old should easily last another eight decades. This radio is somewhat heavy at 24.5 lbs. This unique and stunning cube-like radio really stands out with three different veneer inlays, large dial face and columned corners. Add the stylish speaker/ grill on the top and it is one classy looking radio. While inconclusive, it appears this and others of this model radio was a prototype, as it did not have its own label. The one in this radio is marked Model 417 operating at 55 watts. That is crossed out and penciled in is 517 and 70 watts. That is consistent with what other owners report. This radio has five tubes, while model 417 only has four. The old original finish was removed, but the cabinet retains the original stain, which was rejuvenated and toners used on the trim and other areas to return it to the original look. The cabinet does have two minor areas of repair as can be seen in the photos – at the top, right side at the bend and the left column, midway. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition. The multicolored dial face graphics are crisp and clear, nicely lit by the pilot light. It has the original glass dial cover and the wooden knobs are original. The power cord was replaced, using the original Bakelite plug. The speaker grill cloth is new. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using a three foot external wire antenna. Sought after by collectors, it is a prize to possess. Those wanting a focal point for their decor will not find a nicer representative than this radio. And, since it is now restored, this 1936 radio will last another 82 years if well care for and cherished, just as it should be. This rare and coveted radio is just stunning with its simple beauty. With a large, well lit dial and speaker on the left side, it really has an eye catching appeal since it is so much different than other table radios of that era. Much sought after by serious collectors, this model is a real treasure. The cabinet is in excellent condition at 82 years old. The original stain was preserved. It was cleaned and rejuvenated. The trim and sides were redone with dark walnut toners, then the entire cabinet was given seven coats of clear lacquer. Finally, it was hand waxed to further bring out the beauty of the wood. The dial face is in excellent condition with crisp, clean graphics and nicely lit from two bulbs. The dial cover is original. The bakelite knobs are replacements. The grill cloth (left side) was replaced. There is a small amount of veneer missing from the top left rear edge as can be seen in the photos. With a burled wood top and contrasting sides and trim the radio just draws one’s attention to it. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using an external antenna. The original “curtain burner” power cord was replaced with a new cord and plug along with a separate resistor. This stunning radio, while a showpiece, is meant to be enjoyed. It should last another 82 years if cared for. I would imagine the value will only increase during that time. It is meant to be a treat for the eyes and ears. That it is indeed.
