Not too big and not too small, this original finish Crosley tombstone is just right! It must have been a cherished and well taken care of household extravagance for the original owners, as the condition is excellent. Considering it was made in the middle of the Great Depression, it was a valuable treat and important for bringing the news, stories and music of the day to someone’s home. Now electronically restored, it sounds very good too, with the rich and mellow tones found on quality tube radios. With five tubes and an eight foot external wire antenna (provided), it has remarkable sensitivity and selectivity. It also has a high/low tone control for your listening preference. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned. It was given two coats of a high quality beeswax/orange oil polish/wax to bring out the beauty and protect the wood. There is no damage at all to the finish, and it is a wonderful and charming radio to see. It is as smooth as a baby’s bottom! The trim has been redone with dark walnut toners. The dial face has crisp and clear graphics and the glass cover is crystal clear. The original knobs were polished. It has the original grill cloth in excellent condition. The power cord has been replaced. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using an eight foot wire antenna. Find the history of Powel Crosley, who was dubbed “the Henry Ford of Radio” very interesting. At the ripe old age of 84, this. Radio is very desirable. Finding one in this good of condition is very rare. And, now that it is electronically restored it will continue to entertain for many years to come if well cared for. Dimensions: 11.5×10.25×7.5. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. Welcome to a state of the art radio from 1935, and it’s a real beauty now that it is restored. A medium sized tombstone, it has lots of charm and warm appeal. The burl wood front is just gorgeous and really jumps out at you. Using the provided 8 foot antenna lead, it has good selectivity and sensitivity. Just imagine all of the stories, music and news of the world this old radio broadcast so many years ago! It has a few bruises, which are normal for its age, but no missing or damaged veneer and is in overall excellent condition. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet retains the original stain, which has been rejuvenated and nourished. The bottom trim was redone with dark walnut toner, which perfectly matches the original knobs. The entire cabinet was then given six coats of high quality clear lacquer to match the original finish as close as possible. It was then waxed with a quality beeswax/orange oil polish to further enhance and protect the finish. There are a few minor bruises that are often part of a radios life and can be seen in the photos. The scroll dial is in excellent condition, with crisp graphics that are nicely lit by the pilot light. The Bakelite knobs and the escutcheon were polished. The period correct grill cloth is a new replacement. The power cord was replaced. Felt pads were added to protect your furniture. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the external antenna wire. Rare to find in this great of condition, it is a must for a collector and those with a eye for the classic style and functionality that is embodied by this radio. At 84 years old, this completely restored radio will once again provide reliable service for many more years if well cared for. The “J” model is is not just a vintage radio, but an absolutely magnificent piece of art that displays the result of design and craftsmanship of the Art Deco period. Very rare to find in such wonderfully restored condition, it just radiates its striking beauty. From the rich and delicate burl wood to the very intricately detailed side veneers, it has a majestic presence that is a feast for the eyes and ears. The green “magic” tuning eye is bright and responsive to tuning of signals. Powered with eight tubes, it has great sensitivity and selectivity. It also has tone control for your listening preference and a sensitivity control on the rear of the chassis. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet retains the original stain, which was rejuvenated and nourished. The trim was redone with dark walnut toners to match the original appearance. The entire cabinet was then given nine coats of clear lacquer. Finally, it was waxed using a high quality orange oil/beeswax polished to further protect and enhance the beauty of the wood. The original wooden knobs are in excellent condition and were redone with the same process. The burl wood veneer has some minor separation/cracking (which is common) that can be seen in the photos. It was stabilized and sealed to decrease the risk of further issues. The glass dial face/cover is crystal clear and the multi colored graphics are crisp and nicely lit with two dial face bulbs. The grill cloth is original. The power cord is new, using the original plug. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the external seven foot antenna wire. At 82 years old and newly restored, this gorgeous and rare piece of treasured furniture will provide many more years of reliable pleasure if well cared for. This is a large and heavy radio at 31.5 lbs. The original cabinet finish is in great condition with a few minor bumps and bruises that attest to its long life, but the overall appearance is still very good. There is no missing veneer and the finish is in very nice original condition. It sounds good, too, with a replacement speaker. The sensitivity and selectivity are good, using a six foot external antenna (provided). There is a bass/treble control for your listening preference. The ever pleasing green magic eye is bright and shows up well against the black dial face. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost detail. The radio was completely disassembled and cleaned. The cabinet was gone over with a very fine steel wool, then rejuvenated to quench and nourish the wood. It was then given three coats of a beeswax/orange oil polish over two weeks to further enhance the beauty of and to protect the wood. The knobs and push buttons are original and polished. The dial face shows some minor wear in one area, but the remainder is crisp and clear and nicely lit from the pilot light. The dial cover is new and crystal clear. The power cord was replaced. As with all radios of this era having tenite materials, the bezels for the dial face and push buttons are in less than good condition- see photos. Felt pads were added to the underside to protect your furniture. The speaker was replaced. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the six foot. At 80 years old, this rare and handsome restored radio now has many more years of reliable service if properly cared for. It is a must for the collector of 1930′s radios and/or magic eye radios. It will provide an attractive treat for the eyes and ears wherever it is displayed. Dimensions: 16.5x10x7.5. With the classic black dial face and “Z” knobs and dial pointer, this 1937 Zenith has super stylish clean lines and curves. With Art Deco influence, it has a very appealing presence and commands attention. Now restored, it still has the original finish on the walnut veneers, which is in overall excellent condition. Powered by six tubes, it also has hi/low tone control for your listening preference. The radio was completely disassembled and the cabinet thoroughly cleaned to preserve the original finish, which was rejuvenated to restore and nourish the wood. The bottom trim was redone with dark mahogany toners to return it to its original appearance. It was then polished with three coats of beeswax/orange oil wax over a week to further nourish and stabilize the finish. There are two small “bug bites” on the top as can be seen in the photos. The dial face graphics are crisp, clear, and beautiful when back lit from the pilot lights. The dial cover is original and was polished. The knobs are reproductions, yet look just like the originals. The grill cloth was replaced. The power cord is a new cloth covered replica, using the original plug. Felt pads were added to the underside to protect your furniture. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the six foot external antenna. Now 82 years old, this stately Zenith has been restored to provide many more years of enjoyment if well cared for. As are most of the Zenith black dial face radios from this era. Its size makes it convenient to fit just about anywhere to enhance your home or office. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. It is rare too, as very few of these in restored condition are available. And the sound from the seven inch speaker is fantastic. With bass, treble and speech control, it is a real treat to hear and see this gem. This is a high quality radio with multiple wood species veneers and inlays. The green tuning eye is bright and very attractive. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost detail. The cabinet retains the original stain, which was rejuvenated and nourished. The top and bottom trim were redone with dark mahogany toners, which match the original Bakelite knobs. The entire cabinet was given six coats of clear lacquer. It was then waxed to further enhance the luster of the finish. The dial face has a few scratches as can be seen, but overall looks wonderful and is nicely lit from the pilot light. The dial cover is new. The grill cloth is original and in excellent condition. The power cord has been replaced, using a period correct plug. There is one minor “bug bite” to the front, and a very small area on the left rear side that has been repaired. Both can be noted in the photos, but really don’t detract from the total package of this very desirable radio. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the external antenna. At 82 years old, this completely restored radio once again looks like new. It was quite the masterpiece in its day and will now bring many more years of enjoyment if well cared for. It is a larger radio, and will certainly be the center of attention where it is displayed.
