Hard to find American Bosch Model 450 “Around the Globe” tombstone tube radio that is a good candidate for restoration. Unit has been partially restored, with new capacitors installed throughout, but the radio does not function – no sound at all. Cosmetically, the finish on the radio is all original and has simply been cleaned and polished with a professional wood wax. There is some veneer damage – cracks and minor chips and the grill is missing a small piece. The layer of veneer covering the grill is missing as well. The grill cloth is in good condition with a minor tear and all of the knobs turn smoothly and properly, but dial indicator is sluggish. The power cord is in excellent condition. Radio presents well and the contrasting birds eye maple and mahogany veneers really make this radio stand out. Do not hesitate to make an offer, all will be considered. I’m assuming this was some sort of gift or promotional item for American Airlines, on the web I’ve spent hours researching this and cannot find one instance of American Airlines ever working with philco but they must have as the face and knobs look to have been on the radio from the beginning. We are offering a vintage circa 1946 Federal Telephone & Telegraph co. Black Catalin or Bakelite case in the Art Deco style, nice styling on the original brass link front grill. Original bottom label is intact as shown. There is a 1/2″ x 1/4″ chip to the bakelite with with a 7/8 crack coming off to the back right bottom corner as shown. No other chips or cracks. Measures 8 1/2″ tall x 11″ x 7 1/4. In excellent original condition. Never opened or used. Please study the photos as they are part of the description. Some 60 Hz hum — probably could use fresh power supply filter capacitors. A little bit of cleanup, detailing, possibly a few new components, and wood finishing will turn this into a real beauty. Sound quality is good for a tabletop radio. Dial lighting is dim in darkness. May have one or more burned-out bulbs. Did not verify dial frequency reading correlation with station frequency — dial control may need to be adjusted. Has ungrounded power cord — would be a good idea to bring this up to date with a grounded power cord for safety. The radio is in really nice condition. A couple other screw heads are stripped. All knobs turn as they should but volume/on/off knob has some play but does turn. Has 2 original labels on bottom. Measures 16 1/2″ long x 10″ tall x 8 front to back not including knobs. A new cord and may or may not work but in nice condition. Pictures show best description. Will pack well and insure.
