Veneers at right angles to one another. And, with seven tubes and a six inch speaker, it sounds great too, with tone control for your listening preference and a bright green “Magic Eye” tuning indicator. Add to that the unique roll tuning dial and volume controls and the adjustable preset tuning buttons, and you have a very high end radio for the times that still has charm and distinction. A highly collectible radio, it will enhance any location in your home or office. Unlike many of this model radio, this escutcheon is not warped or cracked; it is in excellent condition! As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was disassembled and cleaned. It retains the original stain, which was rejuvenated and nourished. The top and bottom trim were redone with brown mahogany toners. The entire cabinet was then given eight coats of clear lacquer. Finally, it was waxed with two coats of quality beeswax/orange oil polish to nurture and further bring out the beauty of the wood. The knobs, dial face and buttons are original. The dial is crisp and clear and is nicely back lit by two pilot bulbs. The grill cloth has been replaced, as was the power cord. There is no missing veneer nor damage to the finish other than one barely. Ding to the upper right trim of the speaker grill. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using a seven foot wire antenna (supplied). Just imagine the news stories, music and other entertainment this lovely radio has broadcast over the past 80 years. Now fully restored, it now has many more years of reliable quality sound and visual delight if well cared for. Dimensions: 16×14.5×9.5 It will be very well packaged to arrive safely to you! Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good working order. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. Picked this up at an estate sale. Awesome old Rudolph Airline radio with original owners manual!!! I know it is old and rare and that is the extent of my knowledge about this. If you have any questions, please ask. I was told once that you could do more damage than good by plugging in old electronics so I will leave that up to you professionals. It is missing the red dial on the front. Has a chip on the top right and some cracks along the bottom. I try my best to point out every flaw but again please look at pictures and judge for yourselves in case I missed something. You will get exactly what is pictured. Thank you for looking!! This radio receives stations with good clear sound and volume with no hum using just the loop antenna inside the case. In back is an input jack to plug in a turn table or other device. The radio has been successfully bench tested on and off with at least 12 hours on for days and should continue to play loud and clear for many more years. The Bakelite case is a mottled brown with a gold dial that lights up when the radio is on. The screws to mount the chassis were over tightened and cracked the bottom case. I have reinforced the bottom screws holes with metal epoxied to the inside bottom. It is now solid and secure. I have thoroughly washed and buffed the case and it looks remarkable for a 66 year old. The knobs match but 2 are original and 2 are different color replacements. The gold and tan speaker cloth is original and in remarkably good condition. The original hardboard back is still in great condition and shows the location of the tubes. The inside chassis has been thoroughly cleaned; the volume control de-oxidized for smooth volume changes and all moving controls lubricated. I have replaced all old electrolytic and film capacitors in the chassis with new modern capacitors and have checked all resistors. Brittle or bare wiring has been replaced or re-insulated. The radio had a dangerous and unreliable selenium rectifier that has been replaced with a small modern silicon diode rectifier with appropriate resistor. All easily found tubes have been tested and questionable tubes have been replaced. The line cord has been replaced with a new 18 gauge cord with molded, polarized plug. The speaker is in great condition. The radio size is approximately 9¼ high by 15¾ wide by 8 deep and weighs almost 10 pounds. For model Airline 25BR-1542A, Montgomery Ward & Co. (Wards, Airline); Chicago, IL. United States of America (USA). Montgomery Ward & Co. Broadcast Receiver – or past WW2 Tuner. Semiconductors (the count is only for transistors). (replaced with silicon diode). Super-Heterodyne (Super in general); ZF/IF 455 kHz; 2 AF stage(s). Power type and voltage. Alternating Current supply (AC) / 117 Volt.
