Here’s a WORKING vintage AIRLINE TABLETOP 7-tube RADIO model 93BR-720A. Made by Montgomery Ward & Co. In 1939 built by Belmont Radio Corp. Measures 18″ x 9 3/4″ x 9. Weighs about 16.5 lbs. I believe it is all original except it looks as if the electrical cord has been replaced. The radio case has scratches and stains, mostly on top. The glass with the station numbers is loose and needs a new clip to be reinstalled. Cloth grill cover has small tears along the circumference of the speaker behind it. I obtained about 80 tube radios from an estate sale. I will be listing these over the next few weeks so please see my other listings. This listing is for a WARDS AIRLINE model 62-316. 3 band (short wave, middle wave, and broad cast) BEAUTIFUL WOOD CABINET!!! Please see all pictures. Condition: The wood body has very little signs of age if any. Few scuffs and minor scratches at most. The front of the radio has a great classic look to it. Curved on one side, scrolling on the front, cool oval dial, and decorative grill. It is 17 1/2″ wide, 9 1/4″ tall, and 10 deep. ALL ORIGINAL WOOD KNOBS. All knobs rotate as they should. The grill fabric is in good shape with no stains or holes. The cord is in great shape with no shorts. The unit powers up as seen in pictures, the volume knob clicks and changed the volume, selector knob changes from SHORT WAVE to MIDDLE WAVE to BROAD CAST with no issues. It is 90% functional…. I believe that the tuner knob just needs reset at it only partially moves the dials. These radios are highly collectable and are getting harder to find online. It will be protected well and insured. This majestic pre WWII radio must have been quite the modern marvel when it was new. The rich wood veneer blends and book end top are in excellent condition, especially given its age. The black lacquer grill and bottom trim bring out the warmth and beauty of the cabinet. Add to that the functional push button tuning and bright green magic tuning eye, and it is a beautiful sight to behold! The dial bezel and push button escutcheon were lightly polished, leaving some of the age patina. Using an external wire antenna (provided). It boasts the rich and mellow tube sound that has a control knob for adjusting the treble/bass for your listening preference. And of course a. S with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. This is a rare radio and there probably were not a lot of them made, as they were probably fairly expensive. The cabinet was stripped of the old varnish and lacquer, keeping the original stain. It was then nourished, rejuvenated and balanced. The bottom trim and grill were redone with black lacquer to match the original. The entire cabinet was then given eight coats of clear lacquer with excellent results and the photos speak for themselves. The dial face is in very good condition with crisp and clear graphics that are nicely lighted by two bulbs. The copper push button escutcheon shows some minor stressing or bending of the metal due to an unknown cause, but does not detract from the overall appearance of the radio. The grill cloth was replaced. He knobs were polished and have the original felt washers. The power cord was replaced, using the original plug. Felt pads were added to the bottom to protect your furniture. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The dial cord was replaced. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the external wire antenna. This beautiful and larger radio has a commanding presence and should be displayed in a prominent location. Just imagine all of the news of the world, music and stories this wonderful radio has broadcast. It would be a wonderful as a gift or as an addition to the collection. Ewly restored inside and out, it will continue to provide many more years of reliable enjoyment if well cared for. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. This cute little “Midget” radio is in spectacular condition with nary a flaw to its Bakelite cabinet. Made in 1938, it has Art Deco styling and the cabinet is a dark walnut with burgundy marbling. Traditional dial face, the push buttons are functional and can be set for your local stations. Or, you can use the dial control on the side. It is a superheterodyne radio with four tubes plus a ballast tube. It requires an external wire antenna (12 feet provided) for reception, and provides a pleasing mellow tube sound with good sensitivity. And of course a. S with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was completely disassembled and cleaned, then buffed to a wondrously smooth, shiny and lustrous finish. The original knobs and push buttons were polished. The button on the far right is slightly deformed, but is hardly noticeable. The power cord was replaced. The photos say the rest about how immaculate this radio is and how well it displays. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the external wire antenna. This charming radio is now 82 years old and looking like it did when new. It is highly unlikely you will find another for sale in this good of restored condition. And, now that it is completely restored, it sounds like it too! It will continue to bring reliable enjoyment for many more years if well cared for. It is an wonderful addition to a collection or as a gift for someone to cherish. This radio has six tubes that allow it to receive stations especially well with good clear warm tube sound and volume with no hum using just the loop antenna inside the case with no need for an external antenna. It has been tested and should continue to play loud and clear for many, many more years. The wooden case has a dial that lights up when the radio is on. The case has no cracks, chips or odors. I have thoroughly refinished the case and it looks remarkable for a 74 year old. The knobs match and the original hardboard back has been repaired and strengthened and it shows the location of the tubes. The inside chassis has been thoroughly cleaned; the volume control de-oxidized for smooth volume changes and all moving controls lubricated. I have replaced all old electrolytic and paper capacitors in the chassis with new modern capacitors and have checked all resistors. Brittle or bare wiring has been replaced or re-insulated. The photos underneath the chassis show the quality and neatness of my electrical work. All 6 easily found tubes have been tested and questionable tubes have been replaced. The power cord has been replaced with a new 18 gauge brown cord with a molded, polarized plug. The large speaker is in great condition. The radio has been aligned and successfully bench tested for at least 12 hours over several days. The radio size is approximately 8¾ high by 13½ wide by 6½ deep and weighs almost 9 pounds. Note: If you are unsuccessful in winning this radio please check back to see what other radios I have for sale. I list one restored old radio about every week. Offering the second of two bakelite mid century bakelite Airline radios I bought in this recent collection. Another pristine example from 1940, this is a model #04BR-514B. This is one very beautiful restored pre-War Deco Airline. Restored Bakelite case repainted to the original Ivory White color shows its very nice Deco lines. It was manufactured by Belmont Radio for Montgomery Wards. This beautiful radio has original knobs, push buttons, dial, back panel, and dial cover. The dial is very attractive, especially when lit. Five tubes give this beauty great reception and tone using its built in antenna. Back plate is OK. Radio measures approximately 11″W x 7″H x 6D. IF you are looking for a bargain, and enjoy the pleasure that is derived from doing your own restoration at your pace, please check out these most affordable radios. You can listen to Spotify, IHeart, Pandora, Sirius XM, and many FM radio stations through this old vintage radio.
