Zenith Model 5-S-319 Table Radio (1939). The 5-S-319 (5S319) is one of Zenith’s “race-track dial” compact table radios introduced in the summer of 1938 for the 1939 model year. It features all-wave coverage plus Transcontinental Automatic Tip-Touch push-button tuning, a Zenith innovation new to the 1939 model year. This Zenith 5-S-319 “Racetrack Dial” was introduced in the summer of 1938 for the 1939 model year. This model, and the model 5-R-317 “World’s Fair” glass Rod radio, are two of the most unique and desirable Zenith radios among collectors. It has a five-tube chassis that performs much like a radio with a higher tube count due to Zenith’s superior engineering. The dial lamp works fine. The knobs, pointer, and push buttons are all original The walnut case is also in nice un-restored original condition. These sets are incredibly difficult to refinish as you almost always destroy the faux zebra stripe on the top and right front of the case. There are a few nicks and minor scratches, but for an 80 year old radio, I would say it’s in good original condition. A very compact table radio at 13″W x 9″H x 8D. The radio plugs in and starts up with a hum. Knobs and buttons seem to work fine. Needs work and restoration.
