Here is a fine playing six-tube radio made by Crosley of Cincinnati, Ohio. It is a model #181 and from 1934. Crosley made some great looking radios during the 1930s, and this 1934 example is no exception. The deco open grille design is attractive and very unusual. The use of different alternating veneers and chrome make this a stunning set. It was refinished at some point in the last 85 years and has correct period replacement grille cloth. The knobs are original bakelite. The radio is a dual band set, and from both the performance and styling, you can see the fine quality involved. The striking good look, in a very art deco way, reminds me of some of the fine buildings made in the same influence. The condition is excellent. The radio has its Bakelite plug, and measures 14″H x 15″W x 9D. Electronically it lights up, chassis is complete, but I was unable to get any clear reception.
