It looks to be in great condition except for the missing front grille. The tubes are in it and it appears to be complete. I have not tested this in any way. Beautiful classic Hammarlund HXL-1 linear amplifier in excellent working condition. This amplifier is from a local estate. You will see a small brass plaque on the front towards the bottom that says Leonard E. Len was a lifelong ham who owned and operated Walker Radio (now Walker Electronic Supply) in Albuquerque for many years. 20, 15, & 10 meters this grounded-grid amplifier uses two 572B tubes. This amplifier sat on a shelf collecting dust for many years — one of the pictures shows how dusty it was when I removed it from its cabinet. The amplifier contains an internal T-R relay and biases the 572B tubes completely off in standby so that there is no “shot” noise coming from conducting finals. First made in 1964, this is a very stable, very easy to use, very efficient amplifier. This amplifier makes full power with ease. It was removed from service many years ago when Len died. I brought it up very slowly over a week from zero to full 240 volts in order to preserve the good working condition of the electrolytic capacitors. I’m happy to say there were no surprises. A true boat-anchor, this amplifier weighs 66 pounds before packing material and a carton. The amplifier is currently wired for 240 volts. I’ll provide one if I have one in my collection. Otherwise it will come with the new power cord I attached to it (the old rubber one had rotted) and tinned conductors ready to accept your connector or to be hard wired into a safety switch or fuse block. This amp is a twin to one I’ve used for years — I really don’t need two of them!! A photocopy of the instruction manual will accompany this amplifier. This is a relist! Beautiful working hammarlund hx-50 dating from the 1960′s. This vintage hammarlund was the home station of w5nvt, a silent key. It sat for years on a shelf in his office in his store, then after his death has sat on a shelf in my hamshack for years. I cleaned it up a bit for this listing — 4 tubes were replaced as they had low transconductance. I cannot check the 6c10 compactron as my hickok tube tester is too old. The transmitter was brought up slowly on variac over several days — and tested on cw and ssb on the 40 meter band. Good output and good sounding audio and cw signal. Note: this is a really heavy “boatanchor, ” weighing 47 pounds before packing and carton weight are added. This transmitter is guaranteed not to be dead on arrival. A spiral-bound copy of the operating/service manual is included. The manual is either an original or is one of the best copies i’ve ever seen! Important: i recognize two modifications, both reversible. The 5r4 rectifier has been replaced with solid-state diodes and a suitable dropping resistor added to compensate for the plate resistance of the 5r4 so that the b+ won’t be too high, and an additional filament transformer has been added under the chassis. Also — a second oa2 vr tube has been added — in such a professional way that it appeared to be an original stock item. 1935 zenith model 808. This radio features a gorgeous cabinet with decorative inlays, molded trim pieces and exotic veneers – in excellent condition. The beautiful lighted dial is scratch free. Original wooden knobs turn perfectly and stations come in loud and clear. Everything works perfectly – it plays like new. I hate to part with it, but i need the cash. I’m not a vintage radio expert, but i believe everything is original except for the speaker cloth & power cord. I don’t think it was restored, only cleaned – but i’m not 100% sure. The model number on this rare radio is 45×1 and was produced in the 1940 era. The cabinet has been restored to its original finish with 3 coats of. Lacquer and hand rubbed to a lusterous shine. It has been done professionaly. The cabinet is solid & tight with no missing veneer. The cabinet has no nicks or scratches. For a radio that is over 75yrs old and it’s shinny finish is remarkable. The dial lens cover is clean& clear with no cracks. The 2 brown bakelite/plastic control knobs are original & in fantastic looking & working condition the 5 brown bakelite/plastic pushbuttons are all in great condition. & they do work. The horizontal wood speaker louvers are in great looking condition that adds a very distinctive look to the cabinet. There is a back panel & is a reproduction in great condition. The chassis is in great condition& has had all the tubes and capastors tested and replaced as is a 5 tube unit with 2 control knobs the controls are on/off/volume & tuning and both work great. The radio plays loud and clear with no hum or distortion. This rca gem would make an excellent addition to anyones collections or as a stand alone piece as this beauty will catch the eye where ever displayed. The cabinet has been stripped and refinished in a gorgeous two-toned candy apple blue with black swirls and brass trim that was polished and brought to life making this little set look absolutely awesome! The case was clear coated and buffed to a super smooth and shiny finish. These colors work very well together. I use only the finest materials and the results are worth all the work! The dial is in wonderful condition. This little radio looks even better in person! The chassis is mostly original and plays exceptionally well. All tubes were tested and replaced as needed. This gorgeous little radio plays as good as it looks! It picks up many stations in my area. It has an internal antenna plus a hook up on the bottom for an external. Truly a one-of-a-kind little jewel.
