Known as “The Lindsay”, the black plastic (not Bakelite or painted) cabinet is in excellent condition, with no damage at all. And with with eight tubes and dual speakers, it sounds really great too. It has excellent reception, sensitivity and selectivity on both bands. T ake note of the CD. Station locations (triangles) on the dial at 640 and 1280 from those days when nuclear attack was a big fear. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was completely disassembled, cleaned, then buffed to a wondrously smooth and lustrous finish. There is one area on the top where there is a mild haziness to the finish and a minor surface scratch. They does not detract from the overall beauty of the radio. The dial face graphics are crisp, clear and easily viewed. The brass dial was polished. The original knobs were polished. The back cover is in excellent condition and still has the service label from a long gone service center. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were tested and replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The trouble prone selenium rectifier was replaced with a diode. For many more years if well cared for. For those who prefer listening to FM stations with an MCM radio and playing their own tunes through it, this is the perfect radio. Note: Tube radios consist of a variety of vacuum tubes, capacitors, resistors and other electronic components. This radio has been disassembled, cleaned, and components tested. All non-functioning or suspect components were replaced. Vacuum tubes are similar to light bulbs in that an interior filament heats up inside the vacuum tube. When the filament burns out, the tube will need to be replaced. The tubes in this radio are in good. The longevity of the tube and its filaments is related to the length of time the radio is operated and the frequency of turning the radio power on and off. The baby boom was in full swing the year this radio was made and lots of new and exciting things were taking place in the USA. FM was fairly recent and nowhere near as popular as it is today. This radio embodies those times with bold and strong styling of the MCM period. The plastic looks like the old Bakelite, but is lighter and leaving the old technology behind. It sounds great too, with seven tubes for exceptional sensitivity and selectivity using the internal loop antenna. It also has high/low tone control for your listening preference, providing a rich and mellow sound through the center mount speaker. With a simple color combination of the dark walnut/swirled burgundy cabinet against the brass controls and accents, it is a very handsome radio. As with all of the radios I restore, it has been gone over with the utmost attention to detail. The cabinet was completely cleaned, then polished to a gleaming smooth finish. There are no cracks or blemishes on it. The brass accents and knobs were polished, as was the dial pointer. The back cover is original and in excellent condition. The trouble prone selenium rectifier was replaced with a modern diode. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using the internal loop antenna. At 67 years old, this radio may be like the one you listened to when growing up. Since being restored, it will continue to provide many more years of listening pleasure if well cared for. It is a standout radio and a must for a collector. This is the most beautiful radio I have ever owned in my life. I do not want to sell but must sell dues to circumstances. It does play on all bands but the tuning dial belt just broke. I do not have the time to order a new belt but they are easy to find on line and are very cheap. This radio would look good in the home or office. The dial does light up in different colors depending on which band you are on. It does have 3 bands. Medium Wave, Shortwave 1 & Shortwave 2 for 3 bands total. Wow, what a stunning radio! This beautiful and alluring gem is a fine example of the Art Deco style and will be a treasured addition to any collection. The very colorful and well lit dial face is in excellent condition and really sets this radio off. The face wood grains are just wonderful and add to the fine quality of this radio. It also has a high-low tone control for your listening preference. This is a radio that is not run of the mill and fairly hard to find restored such as this one is. The cabinet retains the original stains, which were rejuvenated and enhanced to nurture the wood veneers. The feet and trim were redone with dark mahogany toners to match the original presentation. The entire cabinet was given six coats of a high quality clear lacquer finish with fabulous results. As a final step it was waxed to further bring out the wood grains beauty. The dial graphics are crisp and clear. The dial cover, grill cloth and power cord have been replaced. It uses the original oak leaf motif ivory colored plug. The Bakelite knobs are original. The cabinet has a few very minor dings commensurate with age, including a small spot on the right side upper rear where the veneer had split. It has been stabilized and repaired. Electronically, the chassis was restored, cleaned and serviced, with all paper/wax and electrolytic capacitors replaced with new ones. Tubes and resistors were replaced as needed. All controls and contacts were detail cleaned and lubricated. Wiring and other components were replaced as needed. The radio was aligned, peaked and tuned for optimal reception and quality of sound using a six foot external wire antenna. At 82 years old and newly restored, this high class radio will bring visual and audio pleasure for many years to come if well cared for. It will be quite the conversation piece and the perhaps the envy of other collectors.
