The radio does power on as it should and both backlit dials work nicely. When I switched to the FM dial, I could only hear static. The radio may need some minor adjustment or, perhaps, one of the antenna connections has come loose? This is a really interesting radio. All of the various dials and switches seem to be working as they should be. The wood cabinet is nice and solid and the finish looks nice. There is, what looks like, a little bit of blue paint on the top of the radio. I have not tried to remove it. All of the original knobs are present. As you can see from the. Pictures, the chassis looks clean, but the radio has been in storage for many years, so I’m sure that it could use a good/thorough cleaning. It was part of an ENORMOUS radio collection. The radio is in original/unrestored condition and it needs a new AC power cord. The dials/switches seem to be working as they should be. One of the knobs is missing. I believe that this is 100% original. As you can see from the pictures, the chassis looks clean but the radio has been in storage for many years so I’m sure that it could use a good/thorough cleaning. I do not have the proper equipment to test this piece any further. Please be sure to preview all of the pictures so that you can determine the condition for yourself. HERE WE HAVE: A vintage (c1935) Emerson model 45? Chassis has a metal tag marked with the serial number “6BD-46736″. The model 45 is not marked on the unit that I saw, but similar ones as being noted as being model 45. Untested, and it needs rewired. The speaker fabric is tattered and torn. There are some chips to the wooden body. There is no cover on the back, although all of ones I’ve seen also don’t have it, so the radio may not have had a back panel to begin with. MEASUREMENTS: Radio measures approximately 13″ wide, 8 1/2″ front-to-back, and 16 3/4 tall. The “not as described” return option is not to be used to resolve damaged item cases. Nice example of a non-restored, original american radio. The catalin is free of cracks or structural damage. The hand dials are in tact and turn well. The red grill and dials are bright and in tact. Graphic behind bezel is clear and undamaged. No parts appear to be missing (aside from cardboard piece which covered back components). Power cable in tact. Only flaws I can notice. One of the dials rubs a little halfway through rotation (but turns fully, no problem). The clear plastic bezel is a loose, a little cloudy/dirty, and has a small scratch and dent in the lower portion would be replaced in a restoration, but otherwise doesn’t really detract from the good looks of the unit. The power cable is in tact, but I don’t know if the radio powers up. If it doesn’t power, its likely a very easy fix. The components in the rear have some bare wire showing, and the particle board is loose and has a small crack. 4 The top handle is securely in tact, but the springs that secure it have more give then they are likely intended the handle lifts away from the unit before spring is taught, but can still hold the weight of the unit no problem. As typical to its age and design, the white catalin is now oxidized and appears a sunburst orange and yellow. Small scratch/scuff on the upper right and upper left of radio face. Red handle has some spots where the paint appears matte. Perhaps due to a cleaning solution. I have listed all defects I see. Condition Reporting- Unit operates properly. Powers up properly (10 second delay for tubes). Radio dial (needle & tuning) work properly. Speaker is loud and clear. This has been refinished and is in working condition. A 1939/40 large radio with a big 7-1/2 speaker. All capacitors have been replaced and insulation added for safety along with a new AC cord. A new clear dial cover shows the detailed gold color dial with clarity. As seen, the speaker is in excellent condition. The knobs are original Emerson with function decals and felt protectors. It is 16-1/4Wide X 81/4 Deep X 11High and weighs approximately 25 lbs. The tubes: 6K8, 6K7, 6SQ7, 6AE5, 25AC5, 25Z6 and a L 42 ballast. I took pictures from various angles, please look at all the photos so that you know what you are getting. It looks beautiful from across the room as a decorative radio, however up close the finish shows spots and unevenness which can be seen in the photos when you zoom in. See that it has been patched in the corner near the back. Be sure to look at that photo from the top showing the back, and the E openings, one of them was repaired, and looks different from the rest of the wood. Three of the louvers are not original. The back cover is something I made in my garage. The power cord is new, and so is the dial string, the rectifier tube has been changed, I think it is new old stock, and one other tube was changed. The filters are new, the wax capacitors have been changed. I picked up a few local radio stations in my area. You would need to extend the supplied antenna wire, or install your own antenna connection. From 1938 to 1940. Walnut Ingraham cabinet, that measures approximately 10.5 ×6.25 ×4.50 inches.
