Vintage 1949 Philco Transitone Model 49-500 Vacuum Tube Radio Code-121 restored. This beautiful 1949 Art Deco walnut Bakelite vacuum tube table radio comes from a non-smoking environment and has no foul odors or nicotine residue. It has undergone a thorough electronic restoration and is safe and stable to use. The restoration focused on keeping the radio as original as possible, with a strong emphasis on preserving its patina, with the exception of the tubes that were replaced and the electronic components used to restore the circuitry itself. It has an internal built-in loop antenna that that provides good strong reception, eliminating the need for an external antenna wire and plays loud and clear. The dial scale window is crystal clear with no yellowing, or discoloring at all and the speaker is loud and clear. The chassis has no rust or corrosion and the Walnut colored Bakelite case is clean and shiny. The case has some light scuffs as to be expected, but is in overall excellent condition. There are no cracks, repairs, or missing pieces from the Bakelite case and no U. The dial scale window is exceptionally clean, transparent and clear with no yellowing or opaque hazing. The speaker is in excellent condition with no rips tears or repairs and sounds loud and clear (see video). NOTE: The original back-board was missing as with most of these old radios since they’re made of cardboard. And tend to rot away, however, a new one was hand-made from laminated pressed stiffened cardboard. And was fashioned to look exactly like the original – (see pics). Check and replaced weak tubes where needed. Replace power supply circuit filter capacitors. Replace all tubular wax capacitors regardless of condition. Check and replace all out of tolerance resistors. Ultrasonically cleaned the variable tuning capacitor to restore optimal design performance. Install new polarized power cord. Install new pilot light bulb. Replaced corroded wiring. Fabricated a new custom replacement back-board. Aligned tuned circuits to Mfg. Bench tested for several hours to ensure stability and safe operation. NOTE – Power supply change – (This modification was added to ensure operational safety). The power supply circuit in this radio has been modified to eliminate the built-in shock hazard design flaw. Commonly known as the “Hot Chassis”. Most of the A/C D/C radios from this era had the “Hot Chassis” design. Flaw, which was present whether the radio was on or off. If you were to touch the chassis and at the same time. Touch a ground source such as a water pipe, there was a 50% chance that you were in for a nasty shock! This was a result of designing the circuits to run on either A/C (alternating house current), or D/C (batteries). Which was needed back then because many homes and most farms had no electrical service or wiring yet. This was a known factory hazard that was commonly accepted, however, has been CORRECTED in this radio. The trade-off for this change was to disable the ability for the radio to run on batteries. Vintage Philco Transitone Model 51-532 Tube Radio from 1951 featuring a classic Art Deco design. Works fine, as does face lamp. Made of brown burgundy Bakelite. Radio measures 11 inches long by 8 inches tall and 7 1/2 inches deep. No cracks or chips.

This tube radio features a classic Bakelite design and has been tested and confirmed to be in working condition. With the brand being Philco, known for its quality radios during that time period, this piece would make a valuable addition to any collector’s inventory of vintage radios. Vintage Philco Transitone Space Age 52-548 Tube Radio. It does work however it takes a while to start receiving signals. It measures approximately 7.5 inches tall by 13.5 inches wide and 10.5 inches deep. It is in nice condition.

Nice Philco Model 46-200 Vintage Bakelite Tube Radio, no cracks or breaks, the dial cover is not clear (see photo) otherwise nice shape. The radio is in working condition receiving local radio station in my area.

The radio has been kept as original as possible with the exception of the tubes that were replaced and the electronic components used to restore the circuitry. It has an internal built-in loop antenna that that provides good strong reception, eliminating the need for an external antenna wire and plays loud and clear. The chassis has no rust or corrosion and the Walnut colored Bakelite case is clean and shiny. The case has some light scuffs as to be expected, but is in overall excellent condition. Note: There is a small crack in the lower left side of the case, which has been professionally repaired from the inside with high-strength clear epoxy and fiberglass screening. It’s barely visible (see pics) and is now actually stronger than before! The dial scale window is clean, transparent and clear with no yellowing or opaque hazing. The speaker is in excellent condition and sounds loud and clear. The original back-board was missing (as with most of these old radios), however, a new one was hand-made from real wood veneer and pressboard to replace it – (see pics). Check and replaced weak tubes where needed. Replace power supply circuit filter capacitors. Replace all tubular wax capacitors regardless of condition. Check and replace all out of tolerance resistors. Replaced damaged volume control pot. Install new polarized power cord. Install new pilot light bulb. Replaced all corroded wiring. Fabricated a custom back-board to replace the missing back-board. Aligned tuned circuits to Mfg specifications. Repaired crack in case with high-strength epoxy. Bench tested for 3 days to ensure stability and safe operation. NOTE – Power supply safely modification. Most of the AC/DC radios from this era had a shock hazard design flaw affectionately known as the “Hot Chassis”, which was present whether the radio was turned on or off. If you were to touch the chassis and at the same time touch a ground source such as a water pipe, there was a 50% chance that you were in for a nasty shock! This was the result of designing the circuits to run on either AC (alternating house current), or DC (direct current), which was needed back then because many homes and most farms had no A/C electric service. They either had (Edison) direct current, or no wiring at all and ran their radios on batteries. The Power supply circuitry in this radio has been custom rewired to eliminate this built-in shock hazard and is now safe. As long as the electrical outlet is correctly wired according to US standard electrical building code (NEC), or NFPA 70 building code, which is true with all electrical household appliances. The trade-off to this change is that the radio can no longer run on D/C or batteries. Not a great loss compared to the safety factor gained! Country: United States of America (USA). Vintage Philco Transistone Tube Radio. Not Sure of the Model Number. May be a 42-PT94 with an alternate Grill?? Very Nice Looking Radio. Wood Cabinet is Nice with very little Blemishes -See Photos. Has a couple of light marks/scuffs. Speaker Grill is Nice. The Dial Face has some scratches – See Photo. See Photos for Cosmetic Condition. Picks up Many Stations Across the Dial. This Radio Displays Nicely. And Plays Great Loud and Clear. Starting in 2025 I will be listing over 300 Vintage and Antique Radios from a Collection. Radios from the 20′s 30′s 40′s 50′s 60′s 70′s some 80′s. I would say most are from 50′s 60′s. Conditions include Parts or Repair, Fair, Good, Excellent, and even Superb to Mint Condition.
