This tube radio features a sought after tuning dial that mimics the style and function of a rotary telephone dialer from older telephone sets – the teledial. This radio also features Art Deco design of the cabinet, popular of the time period and its original power cord. The wood is in excellent condition on this cabinet with no serious flaws such as splitting or warping. Despite some light minor scuffing on the edges, the veneer is in great shape! There are some light punctures in the speaker fabric. The tuning dial and knobs do function and move freely, however the teledial does slip when tuning stations. A matched butt swirling grain flows throughout the front and sides with zebra stripe inlays on the top and bottom. A large wrap around grill is accented by elegant brass trim that matches the brass’Teledial’. Protruding claw feet and jet black edges add the perfect finishing touches to this Art Deco beauty. A definite conversation piece no matter which room in the home or office you choose to display it in. The brightly lit’Teledial’ is a real head turner! Not seen on too many radios of this era, it gets its nickname by the resemblance of an old telephone dial. Small pushbuttons are located around the dial, and when pushed and turned, the dial will automatically stop at its intended location (when set). Quite a unique feature! Yet another unique feature is when tuning, the entire dial turns while the large Grunow pointer stays stationary. All letters and numbers on the dial are legible and show little signs of wear. All three knobs are perfect and work as follows; on/off & volume, band switch, and tuning. The 1930′s style grill cloth is a fine reproduction featuring a classic gold background with a herringbone design. All tubes in the 6 tube chassis were tested with any weak tubes being replaced. All caps, filters, and resistors were checked and replaced as needed. All brittle or bare wiring was replaced or re-insulated. The chassis has been cleaned, lubed, and re-aligned for optimal performance. I’m able to receive many stations, near and far, with great tone and plenty of volume. I’m also able to receive quite a few stations on the shortwave band, especially at night. The Cabinet’s Finish & Restoration Process. Our Radio cabinets undergo a vigorous restoration process. Our goal is to maintain the natural beauty of the wood and grain, while providing a deep luster and shine. We achieve this by removing all the old and worn lacquers and stains. We then sand the cabinet with fine grit pads down to the original bare wood. Nicks, chips, and blemishes are filled and/or blended. Any loose veneer is re-secured. We make sure any filler applied or repairs made are blended nicely and do not detract from the beauty of the set unless otherwise noted. New stains and sealers are applied by hand. We continue by using many coats of Mohawk brand lacquers and toners applied in the same manner as when the radio was originally finished in the factory. We use a nitrocellulose piano lacquer which is applied through a professional HVLP turbine spray system in a climate controlled room. Nitrocellulose lacquer is very thin. We also apply very thin coats. This allows the lacquer to seep into the grain and not cover it up. A fine grit wet sanding follows every third coat along with a polishing process and ending with an Oz glaze rub. Many hours of work are put into the radios, but as you can see, the final outcome is a beautiful, natural looking cabinet with gorgeous luster& shine. Our radios are a great piece of history that come to you ready to proudly display, as well as listen to, in any room of the home or office.
