This receiver looks fantastic. The faceplate is just about perfect, the cabinet has it’s original paint with very few scratches, and the copper chassis has very little oxidation. It’s complete, and some of the capacitors appear to have been replaced at some point (I don’t know when). Other than those caps, it looks original and unmodified. It powers up and the tube filaments glow, but no further testing has been done. This will make an excellent candidate for electrical restoration! This is a vintage piece of equipment that’s been sitting in storage for many years, possibly decades. When electronics sit for this long without being used, components go bad. Electrical components will certainly need to be replaced, and we simply don’t have the time to do this work. Cosmetically, this radio looks pretty good. The faceplate is in excellent condition, and the cabinet has normal wear with the expected scratches and scuffs. This Drake R-4B is in decent cosmetic condition. The faceplate looks good, but the cabinet looks like it has been repainted at some point as there is a strange texture to it, particularly towards the front. The copper chassis has some corrosion, but if you know anything about Drake equipment you’ll know that this is very common. There are a few crystals installed, and all controls turn smoothly. This was part of a radio collection we recently acquired. It became clear to him that this would never happen, and as a result he decided to sell most of his collection to us. Available for sale is a drake r-4b. Take a look at the detailed description below, and scroll to the bottom to see the photographs. None (no box, manual, etc). Includes three extra crystals for 28-29mhz. The unit is in good physical condition. The cabinet is clean with minimal wear, and the face looks good. The cabinet is missing a few screws, but other than a few minor scuffs it looks pretty darn good! The receiver was tested on a loop antenna with an rf generator. While checking calibration, we noticed there was no output on the crystal calibrator. Also, we were not able to receive on 160 meters. Lastly, the bandswitch is a little soft. It is functional, but you have to play with it a little on some bands. We gave the unit a light cleaning (air and brush only), and cleaned all switches, pots, and tube sockets with contact cleaner. This really helps performance. We ran the unit for several hours on 40 meters ssb. The unit was very stable.
