This metal-cabinet version was originally developed as a troop entertainment radio at the end of WWII, and the earliest examples – like this one – have the steel carry handle that Detrola later dropped. TESTED & WORKING: Powers on, warms up, and plays. Holds stations solidly and sounds good through the original speaker – clear audio, no dropouts during testing. Dial lights up and the tuning mechanism moves smoothly across both bands. One of the two dial lamps is out; the remaining bulb still illuminates the dial well (an easy, inexpensive replacement if you want both lit). No dents or damage to the cabinet.

This sale features a vintage Detrola radio model 3044. This restored 43 watt/117 volt radio measures about 12 wide. It looks to be in very good condition with mostly just light wear noted. The radio works well with good sound and the radio light is working. It picked up several local stations when recently tested. The speaker fabric shows normal discoloration and looks to have moderate wear. Please refer to the photos to verify the condition and details. The asking price will be lowered over time if it remains unsold.

Listing is for a virtually flawless 1938 Detrola model 208 vintage tube radio. This pre-war set is made of marbled black and brown bakelite, with a case that uses subtle and elegant art deco style elements – like the unique sweeping lines of the horizontal speaker grill, and classy original bullet knobs. It has a small 9″ wide by 7″ tall by 5 deep footprint, making it easy to fit in virtually any space. Although it relies on a tuned radio frequency (TRF) receiver vs. The superheterodyne design of its successor, the more commonly seen model 283, I had no trouble picking up most of my local stations by extending the wound length of period-correct cloth-covered antenna wire. I actually find that it has a surprisingly large sound for its size. I can’t guarantee it, but believe that the radio was recently recapped. It doesn’t have its back panel, but the bottom of the wooden housing is marked with “CM 3051″, so I believe this is a model 3051 from around 1939. It powers on enough to light up and some of the tubes light up, but I’m not getting any sound from it. It does need a new power cord, as the current one has a few damaged spots and exposed wiring. The speaker fabric is not original, and in my opinion, I think this radio would look better with a different fabric! The writing on the faces of the buttons have worn off and aren’t fully legible. I don’t have a back panel for the radio. There are scuffs, scratches, and small stains scattered throughout. Will come as shown, so please see photos!
