VINTAGE BROWNING GOLDEN EAGLE MARK IV RECEIVER. I’ll describe what I know and what I did to test the unit. I took the unit covers off and first noticed the brown overheated board on the bottom (shown in first pictures below) and that looked a bit suspect to me, so I. First powered it on with a dim bulb tester and it showed no concerns. I then powered it up slowly on a variac. The front panel lights lit at around 60 volts and some tubes were lit and no problems so far, but as I reached 70 I felt a bit of heat coming off around that browned board area and a bit more heat coming off the big silver cylinder cap on top, so I decided to stop there and and not do any further testing. The unit is in pretty good cosmetic condition and is very clean. The previous owner wrote on the inside bottom cover. Top metal faux wood grain cover is in excellent condition. Vintage 1920′s possible Browning Drake Kit 4 tube radio that is in good shape for its age. Radio has 4 01A type tubes (1 Radiotron UV-201A short pin with a pip top, and 3 RCA Radiotron UX-201A), all of which tested good on my Eico Model 625 tube tester. The radio has two Velvet Vernier dials that turn smoothly and properly. The two large coils are labeled National Browning-Drake and are in good condition as well. There is an original Ray-O-Vac 4 1/2 bolt C battery inside the radio that would be for display only. The brace that keeps the top open is missing a grommet/screw and does not hold up the top as a result. The radio measures 25 5/8″ long, 11″ deep and nearly 9 tall. There is a split in the top and some minor warping and the base is also showing similar issues. The finidh on the radio is all original and has simply been cleaned and polished with a professional wood wax. Unfortunately, I do not have the ability to test the radio, but 4 functioning 01A tubes should be a good start on this early battery operated radio. Ndition and has not been cleaned or serviced. One owner from prominent estate. The owner was a avid ham radio operator and collected many ham radio related items. The Transmitter is part of a complete Browning Golden Eagle Base Station that was set up with large antenna at the estate. The Browning Golden Eagle Receiver and Golden Eagle Mic by The Astatic Corporation are listed separately in my other listings. The Transmitter powers on properly when connected to the Receiver. The meter illuminates and the needle functions properly. The knobs all turn smoothly and the digital counter displays the channel without issues. Each mode illuminates properly and the “On The Air” displays when the mic is keyed. The circuitry contains 8 tubes, 5 IC’s, 19 Diodes, 19 Transistors, 2 LED’s and 1 LED Display. Could not test without the proper antenna but the original owner stated it was working when last used. Ee pictures for details and condition. I have described the Transmitter to the best of my ability and can make no guarantees or warranties on its performance. I have not cleaned or polished but will clean up nicely, if desired.
